Thoughts about starting a blog

Hi guys. I'm looking to start a blog where I'll post funny stories that happend to me or my friends. I have a lot of this kind of stories. Do you think I'd be able to monetize it? If yes, what's the best way to do it?

Yeah, you can monetise a personal blog. I know Steve Pavlina had his self-help/personal blog monetised with Adsense for a while, so there's no reason you can't do it as well.

What about ranking it in google? How will someone find it?

You can still try targeting keyword, although if you want to keep a natural feel to the site, just write without worrying about the keywords.

I used to find articles written by Maddox, the owner of The Best Page In The Universe, all the time. For example, I once typed in "iPhone sucks" into Google, and bam, his site was right there on the first page. In fact, it's still there in the 3rd position.

Using social media and sharing your articles with friends and family are also viable strategies.

I will post funny stories from high school, college, trips. How will anyone find them in google. What about social media?

Ah, well a tactic that I used on my personal blog (I no longer really keep up with it) was thinking of the story I wanted to tell and finding related keywords.

Let's say for example that you wanted to write an article about how you and your high school buddies had a run in with a huge alligator near a swamp. What you could do is go into the Google Keyword Planner (GKP) and type in "alligator near a swamp". For the sake of this example, we're going to pretend any example keywords here have more or less searches than they actually do. Anyway, so after typing in your keyword, you can find search through the relevant keywords in the GKP until you find one that has a decent number of monthly searches and is easy to rank for like the keyword "alligator in a swamp", which receives 500 fictitious searches each month.

From there, you can modify your story from "you and your high school buddies had a run in with a huge alligator near a swamp" to "you and your high school buddies had a run in with a huge alligator in a swamp" and just write the story from there while doing basic on-page SEO.

Start your blog as you wished and make a study about SEO regarding the keyword targeting if you wish to get your keywords ranking on Google. The earnings also possible by the help of Adsense if your blog built with the real traffic.

Try with the throwaway blogs like tumblr, blogger, wordpress etc. because you can test it before you go fully hosted blog of your own. In blogger you can also generae money by implementing Google Adsense but for that you need to bring in decent amount of traffic.

I will go with my own hosting and wordpress platform. Hosting services are cheap nowdays.
