I was reading through this thread (I'm not affiliates with OP) and noticed these posts where people are wishing the OP good luck with sales or asking for samples and then they have a big flashy banner in their signature.

Nothing wrong with wishing someone luck or asking for samples but I'll be honest, posts like these look like blatant signature promotion and an attempt to drive clicks away from the original thread.

If you want to wish someone good luck, do it but please be nice and disable your signature before you post. You can do so by unchecking the 'show your signature' option found under the the post editing area.

I didn't post this in the forum suggestions section because this is not meant for admins or mods. It is a suggestion for members.

Edit: Removed the screenshots as I didn't intend to call anyone out.

I would have to respectfully disagree. Even if that were true, which I am sure it is in certain circumstances, the sales thread gets a bump. So its kind of win/win? As long as members are allowed to have promotional signatures these sort of things will inevitably happen.

I am too new to quip on this, but isn't this too common in most threads. Maybe, Op in such threads don't have problem with these people commenting such flowery stuffs. Also, some of these people might be genuinely intending to wish, but as you said, removing signature might be a good idea.

How about BHW should hide all the Signature (spaces) on all marketplace threads and test how it goes for a while?

    P.S.:
Something on the lines of removing the much-abused Rep system. Initially most complained, now they don't even remember that system. :)

A bump that would last 10 minutes on the homepage and won't get a lot of clicks since there's so much clutter on the homepage. And the signature remains there right on the first page of thead forever. No sir, it is not a win win :)

And these things can stop if members start to practice some manners.
Its like walking into someone's shop and saying "Oh nice shop you got there" and sticking your printed ad on the wall.

You could have done the same without quoting those members. I am pretty sure mods are well aware of it.

Not defending them, just think its unnecessary to call them out.

Anyways, I have to agree with your comment, but I don't think a BST owner would mind someone posting that kindda stuff as it helps to bump it and generate more impressions/views/sales

Indeed, I'm not questioning anyone's intentions. But if you're genuinely wishing someone good luck, disable your signature and make it look that way.

This has been talked about in the suggestions and feedback section. Not sure what's wrong with this idea but even if admins don't implement this, we can be nice and play it fair ourselves :)

I understand your point but manners are not a requirement. If this was to change then it would have to be enforced as standard by simply disabling signatures on market threads. Which I am sure is not too much to ask. I must agree with Reyone as well, calling people out (poor Unborn) is probably not the best way to go about it.

Could have, yes. But apparently some members are smarter than me and they would remove the signature after reading this thread. This has happened in the past ;)

Edit: Removed the images as I didn't intend to call anyone out.

Lol.. are you serious? All you needed to make that post perfect was to have a promo signature.

This sounds like a workable idea. Yeah unless it's made part of the forum rule, no one would really follow these suggestions. And some of the posts with siggy might be unintentional because people tend to forget to uncheck "Show Your Signature" genuinely.

Also the BST owners have the right to report the post in case if someone is blatantly trying to cross sell thru signatures. But most of them don't bother to do it as they get a free bump.

If someone is going to buy a service they will buy it anyway, so the whole sig issue is laughable to me and has been for a while. If they do end up getting diverted, well maybe for the better. At the end of the day it's customers first, if your service is shit and customers divert, that's your fault.

    Another option can be:
A sales thread maker should be able to hide all Signatures on his/her (sales) thread. A Signature can no doubt influence members, especially those who come to a sales thread could be potential buyers of (other) services on BHW. Outside the sales thread, they are supposed to get influenced by Sig adverts, but on any sales thread, those Signature adverts could dampen the OP's efforts of getting sales, and those adverts could become a major distraction. Sig adverts are very potent instruments of advertising and marketing, and they can really impact the subconscious minds of readers -- in a powerfully subliminal way.

The subliminal effect keeps working all the time they are displayed anywhere, and hence they could/should be hidden on a sales thread at least, and allow the thread maker to get only his own marketing pitch working on his/her sales thread imo.So, a button saying "I don't want any Signatures displayed on my sales thread" or "I don't care really -- they can be displayed or hidden by the poster!" whatever... could help in such a case.

Dont know how about you, but me.. I'm advertisement blind.
Expand, shrink, remove that signature, place it above, below, remove it from marketplace, even place it instead the title - nothing is going to change.

You and I and some others have perfected the art of becoming ads blind, but the Signatures are always beckoning general readers subconsciously. That's one of their main jobs imo. A good salesman shouldn't allow distractions (other products) to be placed next to his own product, or the product he MUST sell. Any other advertisement, other that the most important ones which the forums place on the thread, are (major or minor) distractions, and they do play a part. This should be looked from a seller's viewpoint to understand the impact on his/her sales, directly or indirectly. He should be give the full opportunity like OP says. The onlookers, potential buyers, friends, relatives, window-shoppers,... could have an opposite viewpoint which too is welcome. Ask the man who wants to sell about his/her opinion and which is the most important viewpoint on this issue...

in most cases when I see first page or few with more then 95% of comments "good luck with sells" or "nice thread design" etc.. for some reasons is push me away from such threads unless is super extremely something I would like but then again to find some kind feedbacks or reviews of this service makes almost impossible as 95% would be spammed with comments that's got nothing to do with feedback/review of this or that service

P.S. all other forums (god forgive me mention them) are not allowing post nothing but feedbacks after purchase only for all other questions there's PM/skype/email or other types of contact with OP/Seller

don't judge me is just my opinion

EDIT: Im not sure but I think in forum settings by default you can disable signatures of all posters in that or this category this is something should be apply by default to BST section by admins
