Those crazy Nigerians....

I was trying to legitamitly sell my xbox and these scammers try to rob me! I listed it on Ebay and on Craigslist. I got a call from someone who saw my Craigslist ad, and I was willing to pay me 270. So I go check my Ebay auction and it had sold for $300. So I had to refuse the guy i was talking to... my biggest mistake.

So the buyer contacts me with pretty good English, his address is in the same state as me, and he says he just needs my payment info. I give him mine and my dads(mine isn't verified.) So my dad gets an email from Ebay saying that the payment has arrived. I think that, that is odd because Ebay would contact me, not my dad(Paypal would have contacted my dad.) Now this is where I learn its all a scam. The email came from [email protected]. So I look up his address info on Ebay and guess what :O the very first result is fakeusaaddresses.com. Luckily I didn't ship it like he asked me too. The reason why I know he is Nigerian is because he wants me to ship it there for his "son".

My dad nearly felt for it. I wouldn't have let him ship my xbox, but if he was selling something on his own, he probably would have shipped it. He is using the new Yahoo! email which doesn't show the actual email address which is why he didn't know it was fake, until he forwarded it to me, and it had the original senders email address (so I was the one who discovered it).

Never ship anything before you've seen the money. And I don't mean cheques either. Which you may start to get from unknown persons in need as you've shared your personal info. Look up 'thescambaiter' for some good laughs.

Close call. Didn't know those pesky Nigerians had upgraded above mass mailing.

Yeah, it was specifically geared toward me. Included links to the real Ebay, had my username, my real name, and had everything. The only thing it was missing was the footer. It had said that the payment had been confirmed. So I was suspicious when I didn't see anything when I logged into ebay.

If your dad almost fell for it (no disrespect intended), can you imagine how many other people actually do? They are getting smarter and smarter, changing the way they scam people. I bet those scumbag scammers are making a lot of money off of innocent people.
