It's a tough call.
Thought I think the sex is better for the latter.
Anyway, I'm an atheist, but I often use her derivative of Pascal's Wager.
From a sheer matter of utility, if you were dying of cancer and had an hour left to live, it makes sense to pledge your devotion to one of the Gods. Afterall, what do you have to lose at that point?
Additionally, you wouldn't want to become one of the inclusive religions, (or believe in re-incarnation) because, if those religions are true, people get a "second chance at heaven" regardless of the religion they died with.
So it makes economic sense to hope that one of the exclusive religions (fundamentalist islam / fundamentalist Christianity, etc) are correct. Because those religions don't give you a second chance. Hence, when you die, it makes sense to choose one of them, and hope that one of them is true.
It's a longshot, yes.
But if you're wrong, you just get eaten by worms, so...
