This time is serious, SEO is REALLY dying

For years we have laughed when someone asked ''is seo dead?''. Now, it's the sad truth, AI is killing traditional SEO and it will only get harder in the next few years.

Google now created an AI mode. Other search engines tend to follow their steps. Before that, they were creating AI overview and integrating AI. Nobody need to visit your unknown blog to read an AI generated boring text, they can do that directly on an AI model and get personalized answers.

For now, SEO is still alive, but in the coming years it tends to basically vanish from internet. It wouldn't be a surprise if AI mode soon completely replaces the search feature. So, there's no AI Mode in the future. There's only AI results, people click SEARCH and automatically AI start answering, no SERP. Bing and other alternatives are not against AI, no place to hide, it's not only Google.

So, what to do?

1) Pay: This is something that will never change. Nowadays if you want to easily appear on page 1, just pay for ads. In the future, if you want to be featured by AIs, just pay and it will shill your brand.

2) Optimize: If we don't want to invest $$ in the new Google A(I)ds, we'll need to figure out how those algorithms work and how they determine which kind of brand deserves to be mentioned when someone asks for it on their chat system. We will probably need to build some reputation, fake reviews, social mentions (not only links). Social media and videos tend to become much more relevant than guest posts. Instead of blog comments (it will become completely useless), comments on TikTok videos (or whatever social media is relevant in the future) will be much more important. The medium term future is social media + AI.

Just some predictions, share your thoughts too, please.

Long live Interactive Web Apps! No ai can embed your quality and fun interactive blog on ai. Or scrape you if you are already behind a paywall for your visiting members, to get a premium experience.

Yes, I can already see what is happening...this AI mode is just the beginning, the test phase, they are already adapting Google users to become used to this new chat style, someday they just deactivate the old fashioned SERP style and we have something like ChatGPT directly on Google, type what you need and it will give the answer, no SERP, no blogs, no human content.

it's not depressing.

Many jobs have died over the centuries and we're not missing them anymore because we've replaced them with other activities. And SEO is just a fad whose time is up, just keep your eyes peeled for new opportunities

For information queries, probably, yes. For all other? I dont think so, not yet anyway.

It's a valid discussion, for now it's still feasible and working, but some changes make me feel that search engines will become very different soon

I don't think so. As I mentioned, I think social mentions (signals) will be more important

ok, humans are not publishing blogs anymore, so, where the content comes from? from social media, humans won't stop creating content on social media, those AIs can continue scraping real human content from there

text content from Quora, Reddit, FB, etc
video content, automatically transcribe it from tiktok, youtube and instagram

for blogs , news , images, etc 100% their time is done..
for service-websites i don't think so , ai can't provide services to their users ..

online services ( besides the file conversion these are affected by ai , example chat gpt can convert your pdf , files to other extensions online without the need to online websites .. etc )

What you are saying is heartbreaking and very much true.

But imagine people always need the latest news, articles, and updates. there should be still scope for showing information right from trusted sources. Because

1 What if Ai will start showing wrong or outdated information and it will happen again and again? Then what people will do I change platform and no platform wants this.
2 What if people, companies will stop publishing latest content, then what Ai tools will scrap. t will show old outdated information and people will skip that.

There will be new advance features coming and that will decide what future will be. but yes Ai is scary and a lot of jobs are in danger.

Sure
But how will people find your website that offers services? That's the point. It won't be through Traditional SEO
It will be via paid ads, social media or in this case, AI mentioning your service as a potential solution for their needs

Someone asks ''I'd like to have access to a shopify alternative'' - so, AI will mention some of those Shopify alternatives (services) and they will receive traffic from it. Website are not dying, just the way of getting traffic is changing.

1) As I mentioned above, websites are not dying. Especially huge news outlets, they will be used as supposedly reliable source for those AIs. They won't get traffic from traditional SERPs as we are used to right now, but they will get traffic from AIs using them as sources of information.

2) Huge companies and news outlets don't have a reason to stop publishing latest content, they are not trying to kill their own businesses, they need to keep working, their websites will be still active and pretty much alive.

The point here is: the way websites will get traffic.
I wouldn't be worried about how BBC will get traffic, they have a huge established authority and reputation, the traffic source will easily shift from Google SERP to Google AI, not a problem for them.

The problem is newly-created blogs and websites that we create and don't have any authority, feedback or relevance, they will only be considered if you are in a tiny niche. Then, we will need to build some real or faked authority to be shilled by those Ais.

The sooner the better, maybe we will stop getting those spammy SEO mails

Totally agree. Everything’s been shifting since AI entered the game and now is a moment for SEO.
