+1 to having their own groups. Although, In a few months I'm sure there will be an IG patch making them less effective. It seems like a very short term tool for growing.

Agreed. But I think they're also popping up so often because of the failure rate being so high. Poorly run, lack of monitoring, engagement drops, people leave. Rinse and repeat.
I've been in a few and the people running them were some of the most incompetent people I've dealt with on the internet. Sure, you can't be great at everything, but figure out procedures and processes before mass inviting and pissing everyone off.
