I got a neg rep from a complete a$$ wipe who was harassing anyone that posted something that he didn't like. And he was posting some really messed up stuff himself.

It did bother me for a minute but I eventually got over it so I know how you feel. It's easy for some people to say get over it but some of us are just a little bit more sensitive than others.

I mean human beings can only look at other's flaws. So whenever someone points something out to me that is about me. I really do listen and take it seriously. I mean yea i will get over it in a couple of days or something, but i all of you guys who are saying "get over it" will also be mad if you suddenly get bombarded with a lot of non-sense rep and messages.

This is why I look at a users "Thanks" to determine there reputation, not only to see if they've actually made contributions to the forum, but because someone can't neg thank somebody. And of course because rep is anon. and people seem to neg rep sometimes just to make themselves feel better.

Conversely, I've seen people with 1,000+ thanks here on the forum scam for less than $100.

Moral of the story: take these 0's and 1's with a grain of salt and defintly don't let it get in the way of your success!

This is so damn annoying, I've had this problem too and that's why I created a thread in the Suggestions and Feedback forum and although it has had some replies from other members, no one has done anything about it. Maybe if the thread becomes more active, something might be done about this system so if you guys want the link, here it is:

I subscribed to your thread and posted back my feedback there. Got +2 Reps from your thread. (You can see that in the above screenshot on 28th July) Spent almost 3 Hrs today in this thread. I Bought and Have Some Tools, eBooks and Videos which are all Posted on Download Requests Section. I'm not giving priority to them now-a-days cos i feel like who cares for who?

According to Harro's Thread Only Jr.Vip's and Higher only can Leave Negative Rep, I've Seen None of Our Mod's are that bad to leave -ve Rep. They're Good and Gives Only +ve Rep which feels good to contribute more. Jr.Vip's are paying Some bucks to Get Access to Threads which are all Invisible to ordinary Members. But with only that $ will they get all methods and tools? Definitely No!

I don't think it so matter as much as being a rep whore but we are a forum here and
I personally would not associate with someone who cannot stand behind their convictions.
I'll tell you in a thread that I think you're a knob, I can't -rep anyway but I wouldn't if I could
everyone has their own opinons. Any Jr vip could -rep you one day and pm you for a Jv the next.
What does the rep system serve? Rep is given when someone appreciates the
knowledge you have shared on the board, however it appears to be taken away by
members who have bought the privalige to be able to do that but not invested
in their own brains.
I've lost more rep in one night than I have now. Meaning? absoloutly nothing.
The Only rep I care about is to my family and bank manager.
So all you -Repers, Think about what you are doing to your own mindset.
"You'll never earn while hateing".
And sign your name to your convictions.
You may grow up to be a man one day.

Well, I guess the members who offer services are affected the most. I mean, the thanks count doesn't really say much about how trustworthy you are whereas the rep count is intended for just that. You could go up or down depending on supposedly trusted members and if you are getting a bunch of lame neg reps then it could really affect your business. When choosing a service I always rely mostly on rep count and then reviews.

I just thought of this, there is no reason why a member with a competing service would not start bashing away at a non-vip's rep in hopes of getting more business themselves.

Yeah, it may not be the best argument but it is obvious that the system is being abused and that the abuse, although only a forum metric, can affect members real life business.
