Just completed an experimental marketing campaign and thought I would share.

I didn't make a ton of money but for the work i put in (almost non) I'm pretty happy with the results.

I created a one page sales letter selling an ebook how to sqeeze extra miles out of your gas tank 10 secrets etc.

I printed up a couple hundred business cards with the URL and such and left small stack of them on the counter next to the cashier window whenever I went to the gas station for gas, soda, cigs. (I drive alot for my day job) I did this for about a month.

I made about $200 selling the book online for 9.99.

When making the ebook, I just gathered the plethora of info from the web and found pictures to pretty it up. Used MS Paint to draw arrows and circle to certain car parts. Total of about 32 pages. Took 2 hours to make including biz cards. I'm not counting the time to pass out the cards cuz I was there paying for gas and stuff anyway. so $100 an hour is satisfying. I think I'm going to print out some more cards.

Brilliant idea.Tell us more when you progressed.

Very nice, I just started doing something similar. I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that offline marketing is where its at.

Congrats

I don't know if I'd throw all my chips in for offline marketing but If you can do it without spending much, It certainly doesn't hurt. I think a good balance of both depending on your campaign is the way to go. I don't have much time to sit in front of a computer, so I have two choices, Outsource, which costs money and it can be like having employees at times, or Find a way to take advantage of my daily life.

I'm in sales, I go to two or three appointments per day at people's houses trying to sell replacement windows for their house. Being of a business mind I am ALWAYS looking at everything as an opportunity. My opportunity is that I meet anywhere from 5 - 15 new people per day from appointments to gas and lunch stops. I give out business cards to everyone. How the conversation goes will determine what card I give them. My window man card, my web design card (my evening part time job) or some other random card promoting an affiliate or another monetized web site.

Basically I live a normal life but I have turned everything I do into a promotion.

Was this when gas was really high, or recently when it has came down in price?

Very good idea man! Just goes to show you that thinking out of the box is what pays off. I like the way you blended in your regular day to day activities into your IM activities.

Rinse and repeat my frined, rinse and repeat :)

Good luck

I just don't have the nerve for offline marketing. Heaven forbid I might meet people or have to talk them round.

Killer idea.

Now imagine if you went to all the different gas stations in your area and did the same thing?

And then kept a stack of your cards in your car and did this for every gas station that you hit when you were out?

Or maybe pay your friends $20 or so to go drive around and place your cards at other gas stations etc?

Just some thoughts to scale up if you wanted to...

Great job.

I think I'm going to try "Stop Smoking" products and see how the results differ. I can always go back to the gas thing if it doesn't work.

This sounds like it can really work well once upscaled.

I'll consider some more planning.

What I would do is buy some self-adhesive printer paper, and print little fliers and stick them ON the gas pumps, right above the total window. "Is this total too high? Visit XXX.com to reduce it!" This way, you're getting the people that pay at the pump, as well as avoiding the people that come in there NOT to get gas.

Brilliant! Glad I shared. Just shows that when you give... you get!

Or how about putting it on the windscreen? I think this would capture more attention :)

lol, thats a very good method, I'm glad it worked for you
