Ok today I saw an autoblog that obviously had used a horrible content spinner to make "unique content." Ok, yes this is definitely unique:

Get on to guaranteed the folder you superfluous does not have another folder bottom it containing the records. This can take house now and again when the chief zips the plugin. The folder containing the records must be the folder in the Plugin pointer not its mother folder. Now and again these guys use the constant first name for in cooperation folders and it can be confusing for the unsuspecting ! If you have more vex these guys can aid?

They do websites for contractors and tiny affair, but I have ancient them in the past for non affair correlated work.

People, do you really think this is in any way a good SEO technique?

Don't you see that all it takes is one manual check of your sites and your domain gets banned from Google? Do you think that someone will stay on your site for more than a few seconds, much less click on any ads you might have?

Duplicate content penalties aren't as big of a deal as people might think and really not even worth worrying about.

For example, search google for this phrase:
"AutoBlogged is a powerful autoblogging plugin for WordPress that automatically creates blog posts"

Currently there are 23,400 pages that have basically copied our old home page text. Seeing that, do you really think you need to worry about duplicate content penalties?

Whilst the text you quoted is obviously pretty shit, sites with awful or even completely nonsensical text still make good money. You don't necessarily want people reading your text... You want them clicking on your ads like good little buyers. If you have compelling ads, readable text is not strictly necessary to get the click through.

With old style MFAs, unreadable text actually increased CTR (except you can't build them like that anymore).

It's just resources in (time and money, with time being more valuable than money) vs money out. If I can make 100 sites filled with juicy SE text at the click of a button, who cares if they're unreadable shite? And who cares if they get banned, just as long as I make my profit out of them before they do?

I agree that dupe penalties are overrated, but we don't know how long into the future that will continue. If my shite spun / generated/ markov text sites get banned, I still have my dupe text sites to fall back on to, and vice versa.

The fact is, it is nearly impossible for Google to do any kind of automated dupe penalties. For example, how many web sites might be posting the same press releases, publishing AP news articles, or even millions of sites already quoting each other. There is just way too much legit duplicate content out there for them to automatically penalize it, much less deciding which sites have the original content and not penalize.

The only dupe content penalties you actually see are pages on the same domain that are substantially similar, such as with category archives vs date archives, or where multiple URLs point to the same content.

Most likely the only likely way an external domain would get penalized is by a manual review, in which case it will instead get completely banned with spun articles.

You can get high keyword density and long tail phrases by using the tagging and category features in WordPress and actually keep your site around for a couple years with no more extra effort. If you are just using article excerpts, you will be using small parts from multiple articles and your pages would never show up as dupes of any one article.

Certainly keeping a site around for a few years that eventually starts accumulating some serious PR will bring in more income than having to constantly keep buying new domains and building new sites. Selling links can easily bring in more many than ad clicks anyway.

I actually had a domain that I ran an autoblog on for a few years but I took down more than two years ago. Today I ran across several first page google results for that site and the domain hasn't even been up for a couple years! The pages all had a PageRank of 2 or 3. I could easily set those pages up again and make $30-$40/month just from those links alone.
