This is a sales page

Google paleo recipe book. First one. You've probably seen this.

Anyway, this doesn't even look like a ClickBank product. This is what affiliates want to market, not your bullshit text-video-voiceover thing with generic ClickBank buy button. I just wish more pages were like this. The sad thing is, 98% of the highest selling products have the bare minimum, with pages that I just don't see how it could convert, even with the most braindead consumer.

This makes me think that the author actually cares about what they're publishing, and maybe, just maybe the product itself has the same level of quality, even without buying or asking for a review copy.

I'd like to hear other affiliate marketers experiences and opinions on the matter. Is it just me? Am I just anal?

Don't think you are anal at all.

I also agree that the Paleo Recipe Book has a great sales page. In fact, both me and my friend agree that they have one of our favorite sales funnels in CB.

Does it convert?

I remember in January of this year I spend days building a kick ass landing page for a CB product. It was cool looking. Put it up on Bingads and Facebook ads....
tons of traffic. Actually my stats were 1,000 hits to my site and 213 hops and 1 sale for $24.92

I was pissed!

So then I redid the site to a very generic looking landing page...
My new stats the next 7 days were 1,200 hits to my site 842 hops and 12 sales for $300.00

No matter what type of site I build, I always find the ones that are generic and plain convert way better.

So long story short, this is why CB sites are generic and plain.

I will give you this though wrxSti....the site does look very nice!

This is a common complaint among newbie affiliate marketers. The truth is, you don't really understand marketing yet, and have little real-world experience.

There's a reason "98%" of product sales pages follow a similar formula. Because every element of that formula has long since been tested and proven by the professional marketing community.

Making things look pretty is great, but would you rather go with the pretty page that loses you money, or the "ugly" page that doubles your money? I mean, it's not like these top CB vendors don't have the money to hire a design team. Now I'm not saying it's impossible to make money with a pretty page, but generally speaking, the more you try to "prettify" something, the further you stray from what "just works".

Once you've invested a few thousand dollars into marketing different products, pages, angles, etc., I'll bet your perspective on the matter will change drastically.

The thing is, you're marketing to consumers not affiliates. So there's a difference.

There's also a reason why ugly websites and banners work really well. A lot of top affiliates actually use this combination in their campaigns.

I agree that it shines through (at least appears) like the author has a genuine interest for the product. But I think regular consumers think in a different way than marketers who has been exposed to all the tricks and techniques before.

I'm a graphic/web designer, so I guess I have a bias for aesthetics.

However, at the moment I am doing targeted adbuys without a landing page, just a cloaked URL. Very minimal stuff, so I rely completely on how my banner looks, and how the sales page looks. I've spent enough money to experiment with different formulas, and this is what works for me, at least when I can't rely on presale. You (and I guess all the other *real* IMers) and I have different audiences.

If you do pre-sell it well enough, they'll be pissing their pants with excitement and couldn't be buying the product soon enough. All they want is the button that says "Buy It Now". I don't deny that, but without it, I just don't get conversions like I currently do.

I'm not a complete newbie to the world of marketing, or affiliate products for that matter, and I do have "real world experience". I do understand the appeal of a trashy page, rather than a "professional", clean, overdone page such as my example. Maybe I should start thinking of how the average adclicker/eBook buyer thinks, rather than myself. If I wouldn't buy it in a million years doesn't mean other people won't.

For now though, this works for the sites I am targeting.

I've noticed this in not only sales pages, but squeeze pages as well. I was split testing 2 different pages: one that I thought look very well put together and thought out, and one that I consider completely half-assed and lazy... the pretty squeeze page converted at a 35% opt-in rate, while my "lazy" page converted at 50%.

It's all about who the target buyers are. Most of the top-selling health niche CB products have some really ugly sales page in my opinion, but the kind of people who would be gullible enough to buy them just can't tell, and for some reason even prefer the outdated look. On the other hand, you can find many nice sales pages in the MMO niche, since the target buyers are young gamers whose web design aesthetic is more up-to-date.

I even see it advertised on AdWords. That's impressive

Make your sales page blend into other ads within wherever you are promoting so you can easily manage yourself.
