extraneous comments removed, I was parting with a client - here is the email I sent to him

*******************************************

3-4 years ago I traveled Southeast Asia over a 10 month period. On my third pass through Thailand I went to attend a 10-day silent retreat at a Buddhist Monastery. I completed 2 days.

On the third day I withdrew. One of the two instructors, a lady, asked me why I was leaving ( the male instructor did not speak English). I went into a tirade about how I felt I was being "raped" ( and yes I used that word ) by the environment when the truth was simply that I was starving and the heat was killing me.

I had eaten all the peanut butter in the place within the first day and I couldn't stand the smell of the food they were cooking regularly (which was loved by the Thai's in attendance). Vinegar-based whatever for breakfast I cannot do.

The lady paused and then replied to me "I accept your decision."

I believe she saw an opportunity to teach me something.

I turned in disbelief and walked out, being American I had expected a defense. But she offered none.

I accept your decision Mr. XYZ, and I wish you and yours the best in life.

*********************************************************************************

That little blurb earned me a $2,500 cash bonus the next day.

Stupid story, how do you scale to $25k/day ?

It's in the lounge for a reason - thanks for raining on my parade, I was just trying to help others. Screw off.

ok so a little more context please...
how much was the original work (as this is relevent vs the bonus).
why did the guy part from you in the first place?
did he owe you any money when he left?
any other interesting info you want to share.

cheers

But how do you earned 2.5k$ ?

Isn't is obvious? It went something like this:

Client: Hi OP, thanks for everything but I think we need to stop working with each other. It's not working out.
OP: No problem client
Client: Aren't you going to beg me to stay?
OP: I respect your views, it's if you want to go just leave
Client: You won't find anyone like me, I am the best thing to happen to you
OP: You ain't nothing but a gold digging whore
Client: Oh fuck you here's your money back *Hands him $2500*
OP: This was just about the sex for me
Client: fuck you

Good story, true or not. The utilization of an anecdote to regain an account, the personalized nature of it, the fact that it is short and to the point, and an eloquent way to peacefully say "I don't give a fuck and I don't need your business". Top notch writing as well.
