Thinkpad r51 doesn't show display unless you hold pressure while booting?

got an old thinkpad r51 that powers up every time but doesn't display anything unless you put pressure under the keyboard first and press power. And when it dos display, any little movement will make the screen go black. Not the hard drive since it does it when it's removed as well. Any ideas? Maybe video card? Some times the display if all funky and pixelated looking. If it goes black while powered on I can push or rub around by the touchpad and it'll show back up
