I invented a new smoker's patch. . . Works really well too!

The difference between my patch and the conventional ones is that, instead of putting my patch on your arm, you put it over your mouth. :) Looking for affiliates now. (lol).

i think all smoker know that it is bad for the lungs and the whole body system, bad for family members esp kids.
I would suggest using the money u spend for smoking to invest in whatever investment vehicle, eg mutual fund at a regular basis.

here's an audiobook which i find it interesting & useful about smoking. (download with torrent) hope it helps esp for those who gives all sorts of excuse for not quitting.

im a smoker as well , i think most of the problem with me is the fear of not finding a replacement for it , i have quit before (then i got moved within my job to a bad department in the government) , but when i had quit that fear dissapeared and i didnt need anything to replace it , its a shame i went back to it , hopefully i will get out this mindset, i was drinking heavy recently 7 weeks solid (cider) , but i got out of it , the best thing that helps me quit was polos (dont know if you are in uk, if not there minty sweets) and will power of course

just some note about my previous post.

<allen Carr's EasyWay to stop smoking>

received numerous positive review from readers all around the world.
explains to you why smoking is not difficult to quit, yet a lot of people fell into their own trap and excuses. He does not suggest any nicotine replacement therapy.... so how does his way help?

listen through the whole program. it will save you, your bank account, and your family's health. cheers!

If you quit, then quit. Don't quite and then pick up the habit again. If you will do this periodically your body will mess up. I was told in medicine class that it is more harmful to start smoking-stop smoking-start smoking-stop smoking than to just smoke all the time.

In my country recently the gov gave a law that every producer should place on each pack of cigaretts a picture with injured people by smoking.. some looks awful

I smoke from 2 years... and think smoking is good... when u dont have any job and u are at home or out with friends smoking is good for 5 mins.

If you dont have a job, you shouldnt be wasting your money on smokes.. lol

I've been asked to write a book about how I quit smoking by about a dozen people that I've helped quit. Seeing this just reminded me that I've been a lazy bastard.

I'll give you the short short version. Do some research and you can find a LOT more information about it. Quitting isn't as hard as people make it out to be.

1) Realize that there are two parts to quitting. a) Breaking the physical dependency on nicotine. Your body learns to use the chemical nicotine in many of its functions including the construction and catalysis of neurotransmitters in the brain. It also uses it in a metabolic fashion to aid digestion making your body more efficient at burning the fuel you take in. This is why it's an appetite suppresant. This is also why most people gain weight when they quit smoking. Their bodies are using nicotine a bit like a blow torch uses oxygen: it makes the fuel burn more quickly and more efficiently so you need less of it. The problem is that it also desensitisez your olfactory receptors (your sense of smell). The triple play is, when you quit smoking your become less efficient at burning fuel, more food smells (and therefore tastes) better and your natural energy levels go up due to better oxygenation of the brain making your body believe it needs MANY extra calories to survive. Blamo. You quit, you get sluggish, hungry and usually fatter.

The good news is that the addiction only lasts about 7 days. It takes just a few days for your body systems to adapt to burning calories in a different way and your brain restructures the chemical factories to make dopamine and seratonin without the use of nicotine as a catalyst.

The better news is that your body only actually needs about 3 introductions of nicotine in the first two days, scaling up to 8 in the 4th day, then dropping off to zero by day 8 or 9 (for most people).

The "introduction need" is the physical craving for a cigarette.
They last, due to the breakdown of the chemicals that cause the craving (pay attention here it's important) NO MORE THAN 180 seconds.

So if you can resist the craving for 180 seconds, it will go away.

Every time.

Try it.

The problem is a little mental trickery called time dilation.

Ever been REALLY into doing something and time just flew by? That's a chemical reaction in your brain. Ever been REALLY bored by something and time just seems to stand still? Also a chemical reaction. The problem is that it's the second one that you have to fight when you're having a craving.

How?

Get a watch with a second hand on it and physically COUNT the seconds when a craving hits while watching the second hand.

I never made it to 180.

That's the short version. The long version includes breaking the mental habit, but if you're serious about quitting, you've probably already done most of that and just dont realize it. Make quitting a project, an experiment on yourself and you'll get through it.

Hope this helps. Sorry for the long ass post but this is a pretty important subject to me as you can see by the research.

[edit] and feel free to hit me up by PM if you want more info. Didn't want to write a whole novel here.

Also, don't be a dick and write a bad book to pawn it off on people for a buck. Feel free to use this, but if you want to cash in on it, at least do a good job. People's lives depend on it. /white hat off

Good luck,

scuba

I Imagine that patch comes in a 2inch round roll, gray in color and could hold my front bumper onto my car? :p

In that case, i'll take about 3 rolls of that to hold me to the bed while i go into withdraws. Been smokin a pack a day for 7 years now.

Its a big issue with me, l hate the do gooders out there and the government tossers who think they can tell me how to run my life, now here in the uk they have shot themselves in the foot, banned smoking from from pubs clubs and public buildings, as a result lots of pubs have seen their takings nosedive and are struggling to stay in business.

The do gooders l really have no time for them, tell us smoking is bad for you, so is fucking living, what really gets up my nose is that the non smokers still want to benefit from the taxes that the smokers put into the community.

I had to laugh when l was talking to a club owner who siad it was alright when his club was full of smoke now its gone he has to pay a large bill each quarter to hide the body oder left by the no smokers, well it must be them as we smokers are outside in the garden.

Last but least the government want it both ways, if smoking is that bad for you and l agree it is even though l smoke myself, then they ought to ban it completely and make it ilegal to smoke but they will not because it would ruin the economy.

Smoking kills, 2 days back I had a severe cough due to it, My lungs are whole burnt, I wanna live more, What do you think? is quitting smoking good ? are u a smoker ?

watch cat's eye....rofl

every breath you take, i'll be watching you...

:slap::slap::slap:

sorry.... everytime i think of smoker's trying to quit, i think of that cheesy movie

Tough habit to break. Don't know anyone that's quit for good that isn't glad they did it though. You'll never hear "I made a mistake by quitting".

Think of it as a pay raise...makes it a little easier.

Best of luck to you.

this thread made me crave a cigarette.

it tastes horrible.

so I was thinking screw it, lets see if cbank has anything interesting to help - i can grab a book and share in the thread.

well this guy, www.quit-sm*king-expert.c0m guarantees youll kick the habit in 38 min and 13 seconds.. Ha!

so my attempts at trying to snag the book have been unsuccessful. maybe someone with a little more tact in this sort of thing can snag it and share.

yea, i know .. this is not the request thread, but it made sense to post here.

If you going to smoke, smoke something that is actually worth it....green...

I quit smoking after I've got a heart attack.
You can be smarter and quit right now.

Congratulations to all you quitters. That's a funny thing to post here. To anyone that is considering quitting; do it. I smoked 2 packs a day for about 10 years, and like Essential Clix said, your energy and endurance will skyrocket. I actually took bicycling back up and am doing a http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/aaron.mccann next weekend. It's fantastic.

All the weird coughed up crap has stopped and I'm no longer getting a cold/flu crap every time the weather changes. It really is awesome. I can't speak for any of the drugs personally, as I just quit cold turkey. It sucked, but I'd do it all over again. Just remember that the first 5 days are the hardest. After that, the addiction is all in your mind. Good luck!!!

yep you are slowly killing yourself if you are smoking.
I use to smoke cigarettes, cigars and weed but I saw some science experiment of what you are doing to your lungs and I was just put off instantly.
maybe you should should go and find something that will either motivate you to quit , or just put you off them.

I smoked for 10 years, until I got a bad cough and went to the doctor office. That visit set off two weeks worth of CAT Scan, Ultrasounds, X-rays and lots of blood tests. I ended up having three different doctors tell me I had lymphoma (cancer). One of those doctors was an oncologist who treated my grandmother before she died.

They ended up doing surgery to get a biopsy to find out if it was Hodgkins or non-Hodgkins lymphoma. They went down through my neck. I now have a cool looking 2 inch long scar in the middle of my neck. (I tell people I got stabbed while trying to break up a mugging!!! But I can't say it with a straight face!)

Guess what. All the doctors were wrong. But it was enough for me to quit smoking.
