Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a bit of advice.

I’m in the process of shutting down my SMM reseller business. It’s been quite a ride with plenty of ups and downs, but I’ve decided it’s time to move on to something more sustainable and less on the “sketchy” side.

After doing some research (and chatting with tools like ChatGPT), I’m really considering getting into SEO. I know it’s a competitive space, but I also know it has the potential to be highly profitable.

That said, I’m curious—are there any other online business models similar to SEO that might be a better alternative?

Thanks in advance!

seo still solid if u commit, but other lanes similar in vibe are affiliate sites, local lead gen, rank & rent, content automation. all about traffic + conversion, just diff wrappers. if u want less grind on serps, look at paid media arbitrage or niche saas tools. pick one u can scale without babysitting daily.

Other online business models similar to SEO include:

  • Focuses on creating high-quality, long-form content (like blog posts, guides, and whitepapers) for clients to drive organic traffic and establish authority.
  • Instead of offering a service to clients, you build your own websites and blogs and earn commissions by recommending products. This is a great way to learn SEO hands-on.
  • A highly profitable model where you create simple websites that rank for local keywords (e.g., "plumber near me") and then sell the leads to local businesses.
  • Instead of organic traffic, you focus on paid traffic through platforms like Google Ads. This requires a different skillset but is a very high-demand service.

I'd highly suggest before moving into SEO to get 10-15 leads who're willing to sign for a retainer.

Most of the local businesses are still in need for local SEO plus AI seo is alos on the rise. Some of my clients receive 10-15% of sales from Chat GPT.

SEO is NOT sustainable at all especially as the entire field is changing right now. You will lose your entire business and probably go na*ked.

shutting down a business is never an easy decision, but sometimes it’s about finding something more aligned with your values and long-term goals. SEO is definitely a great field to pivot into, especially if you're looking for something more sustainable and reputable. While it can be competitive, there’s always room for skilled and knowledgeable professionals, especially with your experience in digital marketing.
