Hey BHW,

Lately I've been toying with the idea of building a website that is not an EMD, but rather a non-existing word like Breakk82. Then I would create subdomains that pertain to some of my interests like sports.breakk82, and create a whole bunch of websites that way. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to doing something like this? Am I better off with getting seperate domain names?

Everyone seems to be creating a ton of websites in different niches, but why not just create 1 big domain with several niche dedicated subdomains?

Forgive me if this question is newbish.

I considered pages, but I would like to have a seperate menu, slider, etc for every subdomain. Especially with Wordpress I think it would be easier if I'm be able to use different themes.

No reason it wouldn't work. Sounds like a big project though. You are basically creating lots of websites, which means lots of work and lots of content.
i would consider doing a site and have pages/sub-pages.

Okay I guess I should get back to the drawing board, and consider just building one huge authority website.

You will need to work hard for this. But Good Luck.

As long as the name is easy to rember its a good name to build a brand on.good luck

DO IT! Google loves brands, they love authority sites, and they love sites with lots of pages. This is by far a better approach than using an EMD, unless you're flipping sites, which it sounds like you're not. You just have to do your onsite SEO right. Seriously, analyze the first page, how often do you see EMDs? Not that often. Build the brand site.

Building a brand is a good idea. Makes your site look legit to Google. But subdomains--not a good idea. It's too complicated and might get very expensive to maintain.

If I had the time, I'd try it. I suggest you give it a go and see how it does.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will definitely give building an authority website a try, but without the subdomains. A good friend of mine (think 10+ years) who is coincidentally a writer, and graphic designer wants to jump in, so we will hopefully together be able to produce enough quality (not just unique) content to generate some traffic. I am considering making a Journey thread, but I don't want to get ahead of myself we just only purchased the domain, hosting, theme and setup plugins.

The odds are on your side then. Good luck, man!

Basically you are creating a general brand with difference branches which makes it sort of designed like an
authority site so yes Google would love something like this.
