If you just made a site, and it has not gotten indexed by Google yet, wouldn't that be the best time to send out blasts, since Google, at that point, has never even heard of you?

I dont think that really makes sense.

The only way a site would gain lots of links at launch (naturally) would be with a large PR push behind it e.g. Bing

Yeah, it doesn't. First you are nothing, then all of a sudden you have 10000 links all over the net, do you think Google will think that is natural?

I mean, before you go to google to get indexed. I'm just wondering. I'm still new to SEO.

Definitely want to take things slower in the beginning if you want to have lasting results.

Start off by using techniques that will help get your site indexed fast like articles, SB, video, RSS submission, etc.

Once Google has found your site, then you can start to pick up the pace, but don't just go out and blast 1,000 links to your site as soon as you create it.

Even if you did get results, they probably wouldn't last too long.
