[THEORY] Multi-Posts = Higher Engagement?

Over the last little while, I began to notice something quite peculiar with one of my Food pages (currently at 220k) in regards to posting multi posts vs single posts. I only post videos on this account by the way.

Now, what I'm sharing here isn't any sort of conclusive study by any means, I'm just trying to show that there's something worth looking into.

Despite the latest engagement dips, I've been doing what I can and I feel I have one of the best communities in my niche (If I don't say so myself, LoL).

I decided to analyze all my posts over the last month (January) in an attempt to conclude something from the data and it was interesting...

I post 3x/day and here were the findings;
Single posts: 44 | Avg engagement = 3%, 6151 likes
Multi Posts: 6 | Avg engagement = 5%, 12.1k likes

About double the amount of engagement. I will do more multi posts in the future. On a consistent basis, at least once a day and see where it goes from there.

Also another interesting note was that the insights for multi posts showed that the impressions from "Home" and "Other" were the highest. Explore being the lowest. for the most part, the opposite of single posts.
This account is at about 2.1M reach and 6M impressions a week.


DISCLAIMER: In no way shape or form am I saying that if one were to start doing multi-posts, that it would mean a sure bet to higher engagement. I just thought it was an intriguing circumstance that it was happening. Of course there are many variables at play in this game, but you all know that.

My theory though is that because people spend more time on your post in their feed, being that they're watching multiple videos, the algo may recognize this and push the post to more of your audience.

This is all common sense. I think everyone has seen a 2nd photo of a multi post on their feed. In other words the same account has show up at least twice in your feed for the same post. Which means more engagement for that account.

The question is, are the higher engagement numbers unique views or simply the same accounts re-visiting what technically is the same post...
 
Yea I agree. It's getting double the value so your going to get an increase in engagement most of the time.
 
I've noticed the same tendency. Thanks for bringing it up! Will be interesting to know what others think.
 
By multi posts you mean posts with more than one picture like where you can scroll right through them ?

Yes that's correct. In my case it's videos, but same premise.
 
I've noticed the same with my IG page. I don't get twice the engagement but it drastically increases.
 
That's probably right.
But it's good to consider that each quality post takes X amount of time ( if you do the proper research, hashtags, timing and etc. ) to prepare.
More posts = more work.
 
So as long as there's two images/videos in a post, the post will be presented at least twice for followers. This makes sense to me as I've noticed it myself. I wonder then, if there's a threshold? If the multipost has 6 images, how many times will that post show up to an audience? Can we get the effects we want by doing a multipost consisting of two images and thus save content for future posts?

I can't really say where the threshold starts or begins, but it is quite interesting. The highest multipost I've done was with 4 videos. But remember, it is just a theory.

Not sure what you're asking, but when I refer to "multi-post" I'm talking about feed posts with multiple images and/or videos.

So if I had a multipost of 8 pictures, it'll show up 8 times in someone's feed?

That was tested before by a famous marketer that I know.
And he realised that the posts where he posted more than pic+ 1 video at the end of the posts. Are going viral.
Why?
I assume that when posting an image alone. A lot of people see it. Maybe they love it, but seeing it and scrolling down won't give any extra information to fb algorithm.
But when adding.more than 1 image/video. The person should click in the post to see the images.
And this gives an information to the fb algorythm that means this post is important...

Moreover, this will let the people spend more time in your posts (and spend more time inf Facebook, things that Fb love) so FB will show your posts to more people to let stay in the plateform. And this looks like a gift to you for your content, and it is also beneficial for Facebook too.

No that's not what I'm saying here. The main observation is that multiposts (or carousels) seem to have higher engagement.

Yea it's quite interesting. Not too sure about a conclusion now, still experimenting with it currently.

I monetize it through shoutouts, but I'm using it to mostly promote my email list. Great traffic to gain subscribers.

Yes exactly, that proposition makes sense. Although I don't want to put anything in stone as of now.
 
It honestly does not make a difference in today's feed. All share one common thread. The content it self. In the past videos and albums would rock in explorer. Not anymore. What is important is the 'other' now. Albums while can be Dm to other folks ruin the impact of say one post. Single pics still rule the day. If albums indeed where king it would flood. The explorer section.

Like I said in the original post, it's a theory. Just because it's not done by many people, doesn't prove it's illegitimate either.
