themeforest "theme-lockin"

i have a themeforest theme and have tried for the past few hours to switch to another theme. it is pretty much impossible, because of themeforest editor. I learned of a thing called "theme-lockin" which applies to themeforest themes. source:https://torquemag.io/2015/04/the-real-issue-with-themeforest/

anyone has a work around for switching to another theme from themeforest word press themes?
