This keyword Google search result breakdown was challenging because I had to view every URL for every keyword to determine what kind of a website I was looking at - this was very time consuming but worth it

This keyword group surprised me with the results I found

windowsvpshosting.png

I downloaded a keyword list from Google Keyword Planner - Seed Keyword - Windows VPS Hosting

I needed to clean the list before using it started with 700 keywords ended up with 677 keywords

Anyone notice the quality of keywords from keyword planner getting worst and worst
I saw keywords dated over 4 years ago, I just cleaned them out so the list will be timeless

First surprise was the first image

I expected a lot more high DA sites to be in this group of keywords
just under 1/2 of the sites are doable for ranking on page one

I breakdown the DA values into 3 groups

0-40 easy
40-60 medium
60-100 hard

I also count all the ads for every keyword

I believe in following the money trail, serious PPC people must have their ads convert if they are going to succeed

I always follow the money trail

The AD counts just blew me out of the water
Almost 600 of the 677 keywords the AD count was max out at 7 for the page one search results

Next image is the site type breakdowns, since my tool is trained for general site types I need to verify the hosting site types so this was tedious work but would pay off for further work in the hosting niche

This keyword group is about hosting so in a way no big surprise the majority of sites are actual hosting sites, I've just never seen this in other niches

What did surprise me is the site types that were not identified how small it was

Here is the breakdown

total URLs 6746, this is not unique urls
this is the amount of urls found over 677 unique keywords
at this point I am not looking for unique URLs just the over all picture
if I was doing this for myself or a client I would go deeper into the analysis

hosting site URLs 4591

Identified websites 1625

unidentified websites 530

the unidentified URLs is where I saw opportunities for review sites, I saw few review websites and the quality of them in my opinion was low

The landscape of so many hosting companies is not about the elephants in the room is how many hosting companies are competing in this space

I was very surprise how many hosting companies their sites were outdated, loaded slow, the list goes on and on on improvements

who only knows how many of them were even mobile friendly

Next breakdowns

NEWS - they did not play much of a role in the rankings

WIKI - this time around wikipedia was the main player here
the other keywords I did breakdowns wikihow was the main player, in fact wikihow did not even show in this group of keywords, interesting how this played out

SOCIAL - linkedin showed up did not in other keywords I've done on BHW

Reddit really shined in this breakdown, if your reading this backlink opportunity and traffic possibilities here

VIDEO - not many of them and youtube was the only player here, again video opportunites only 59 listings and you have 620 keywords without video, lots of missed opportunities here

eCommerce - saw some shopify sites in the mix, overall not many real eCommerce sites, pretty much minor players

BLOGS - kind of strange some wordpress, and blogger but many sites had unidentified blog types but without digging into it could not recognize blog types

Q/A - again Quora the only player here, backlink/traffic opportunities here

Next is I identified the elephants in the room for Windows VPS Hosting seed keyword group

rankingbreakdown.png

Out of the 4591 hosting URLs identified these sites showed up 3029 times in the breakdown
these are the top 39 sites for the 677 keywords

I had a spread sheet up and if the listings were more than what showed the site qualified to be listed

I could of picked more or less, it really didn't matter to me I'm just trying to prove a point

I listed the first image in the most listings to the least 300 to 20 listings

If I was considering this niche these are the players the elephants in the room I would dig into and understand there rankings

Some of the more well known names didn't do as well as I expected

Next image I looked at was their DA values, the majority had high, but many of them were medium to low, if you look at the spread the ends seem to hold most of the high DA values for quantity of page one listings

Next image the links

Everyone is so concerned about links

I just used a bulk link checker I am pretty sure the data came from Moz

Many disagreements have happened on who has the best link checker

Personally I don't care I just need to know if sites have a whole bunch or not in the early stages of doing breakdowns

If I was trying to compete in a hard to rank area you bet I would want to know alot more about links

For preliminary analysis coarse link analysis serves it's purpose
I had a glitch when it came to looking at the Google links so not skew the results into non-existence I limited the Google links because I couldn't really get anything to show up

Again the majority of the links showed up at the ends with the high DA values but the majority of the sites on page one had attainable amounts of links

I see so much written about what people should do in SEO and most of what I see is just a bunch of parrots out there of what they read from this guru and that guru

I do this all the time and niche after niche contradicts what is being said out there
Surprises happen all the time

Google is not going to tell you squat in their keyword planner, and just about everyone swears by it, come on guys open up your eyes to the truth

The truth is the search results, when you actually know what is happening for a specific keyword group then you know what your talking about

Anyone willing to check out the links for the elephants in this room please contact me I would like to see what the difference would be to see if it makes a difference

I am up for suggestions on what else I could add to the mix

Keep in mind, I've been dong breakdowns since 2008 and tried just about everything, most of what I see in the search results is noise and don't mean squat

If you have not seen the other breakdowns here they are

Anyone want me to do another breakdown let me know, I am up for another one

Any feedback? What other info would be useful

Any suggestions for another keyword breakdown

Completely illegible!
Nonsensical..
Sorry to criticize, but surely such comments are coming on the way.

good question thanks

the take away I was hoping to show was when you look at any keyword group is to understand the competitive landscape

in this particular keyword group there is about 300 keywords out of 677 someone could target to rank on page one

I had expected to see higher DA sites dominating those keywords

the value of the keywords to PPC are of high value because ads are maxed out for them across almost all of them

when you breakdown the main competitors and look at their links, quite a few of them do not have unattainable amounts of links for reaching page one

some groups of keywords have so much stiff competition it makes no sense to try to compete in that niche

so the take away is the break down of the actual search results shows if someone wanted to compete in this group of keywords it is an attainable goal and the keywords are money keywords

how else can I communicate this?

no offense

how so it is nonsensical?

if you want to know who you are competing against you need to know the data

how else would you communicate this?

Please try to explain it in 1 sentence...
Ok great response

Bottom line if you want to compete in this group of keywords it is possible but requires some work and here is the proof

is this what your looking for :)

This is a interesting study.

thanks

before I jump into any niche/market I always look at the search results first

I don't believe any data that is compiled for me

who cares

what matters and only matters is what Google ranks period on a day to day basis

when you start looking at things this way you will start to see that the almighty Google is not what people make it out to be

the other big take away of this is and I do say a big take away

the data is all niche dependent

some niches are monitored extremely close and others you can have your way with Google

there is way too many niches/markets with low hanging fruit to try to fight it out with the masses

but still the masses choose to fight it out because they don't know better

when I look at the actual search result data I am basically alone and not just get one page ranking
but I get 3-5 page one rankings consistently for each keyword with no difficulty

when was the last time recently anyone saying they get that many page one listings for each keyword

Okay ....I think there actually may be value in your study. You are just utterly inexperienced at presenting results.

I wasn't even aware Windows VPS Hosting was the keyword. It sort of read like you compared websites hosted on windows and I was like....what kind of garbage did he smoke?!

Great work, but your presentation is so poor. Btw, Why are you evening writing like this;

before you go into any niche, you need to find the data

before you target any keyword, you need to analysis it.

windows vps hosting - truth you must know.

You found it too hard to read?

I did request some help in the data images, but was not focused on the actual text presentation

I've got another breakdown someone requested and will present it differently

thanks
