Let me start this with, I am sorry. I am sorry for the link sellers on here. I am more sorry for the SEOs who buy links online.

This is NOT exclusive to BHW. In fact, BHW is better about most of what I will go over. This is what I have not seen people post or write about.

The Most Common Problems with Buying Backlinks

CPNtLnN

You Expected A Miracle

The first problem is people expect a single link building package to rank ANY term. This is the buyers fault. Entirely.

The reality is, and common sense tells you, if a single link blast could rank "toyota tundra" the seller would not be selling links.

I could blame sellers for not telling clients, but...

You Bought Links - And did NOT hire an Agency

Not all sellers are the same. But when you buy from Wicked, BHW, Fiverr, SEO Clerks, Konker or a random solicitor, you are JUST buying the links.

This is where BHW is special. I have bought links else where. But, I noticed BHW had a larger amount of sellers who would answer questions.

It isn't about just answering questions. It is about sellers who just have a decent understanding of SEO. In fact, some sellers (Notably, a seller of an exclusive PBN rental service and a popular rank or refund seller) on BHW turn clients away if they think you will not get a SERP improvement or your site sucks.

Even more sellers on BHW will answer your questions. The caveat is you MUST ask, after you BUY the service for most sellers.

Bought from someone besides BHW? And the majority of sellers on BHW? They dont know SEO. They know how to build links. They do a great job.

But, again, if they could rank super well, they would NOT be sell $1 links on SEO Clerks or $5 PBN posts with 'native' content on Fiverr.

An Agency will preform an actual SEO audit. A few services will offer a free 'Link Audit' or 'On Page Report'. The problem is most of these are automated reports from a third party.

Some of these reports are nice. They give you actionable tips. Most are not.

You paid for links. Links are cheaper than an agency. They can even work better, unless...

You Bought Links You Didn't Know Would Work

That $83 dollar PBN post package sure looks nice. And it has rave reviews. So you bought it for you new SEO project.

You were ranking okay. Now you tanked.

But everyone else loved them, right?

No. Not even the reviewers loved them. But they worked. But many reviewers point the free review copy to a Parasite, Web 2.0 or tier one link. That is why the service received rave reviews.

Or the reviewer / client needed this specific link type or diversity to rank.

A lot goes into ranking. Velocity, link types, on page and anchor text. This is all also niche and keyword specific. The free advice is general, but some niches have sites ranking with different anchors or link types. Some SERPs have page one filled with 30% exact match anchors. This is not the norm, but it happens.

You must know your niche, you competition, and your own sites needs before you buy links.

You Bought Links Before You Learned (Read Learned as Failed)

It should not be shocking, but you need to know SEO before you throw links at a website.

Everyone fails. The sooner you fail, the sooner you can succeed.

If you don't learn SEO before you buy links you will eventually fail. Even the best SEO will mess up, or tank a site. It happens. But if you do not learn how to rank first, you will mess up your site. That you just spent $xxx trying to rank with bought services.

You Bought Links You Have NO Control Over

How many of you had tried to lift a manual review for bad links? You first try to get all the bad links removed manually, then submit the rest as a disavow.

It is time consuming, and a pain in the butt. Plus, it doesn't always work.

Every link you build or buy means you cant remove it, change anchor text, or update it.

I have personal horror stories of vastly over optimizing test sites with paid links. I changed all I could (hundreds of hours) and still had to spend thousands in 2016 to fix my anchor ratios.

Entirely my fault. I still would have needed to spend all my time to update the links, but since I did not own all the sites my links were on, I had to spend my way out of it.

Sure, a disavow could have worked. But it may not.

The other part of no control, is some links will not index. Some profile links, low quality web 2.0s, etc just may not index.

Again, no control over indexing all the links you buy.

You Expected 'Permanent' to Mean 'Never Goes Away'

Sweet lord. This is the biggest crock in link buying.

ALL links you buy will only stick around IF they are not removed by a websites moderation system OR if the owner renews the domain.

Let me put it more simply. Your spun content blog comment or directory submission will most likely be taken down.

You Permanent PBN post will ONLY last the year the seller paid for the domain registration.

In link building, Permanent only means that the seller will not remove your links from the site. That is it.

This is especially true with fly by night sellers. The new Fiverr seller, the BHW seller who offers PBN links temporarily and then close the network, or the 'Agency' who cold called you and offered you PBN links.

If one of the domains are deindexed, you will be lucky if it is removed.

These links also must be bought as soon as the limited network opens. If not, you are losing time your link will be up.

You only have 10 months for most networks the day the links are for sale. At least a month to set the sites up. If on BHW, at least a couple weeks to pass mod review and complete your order.

Let that sink in. Unless you have a seller who guarantees a whole year, or renewing the domains, your public network is on borrowed time.

Your 'Lifetime' Links Become Weaker

Let's say you find a great and expensive service that rents links OR promisses the links will last. You buy hapily. You even rank. But in six months, you start sliding down SERPs.

Why?

Sellers will tell you that you need more velocity, or fresh content, or your competition became harder. This may be true. But I tend to find...

The links became weaker. Lets be real here. Scrapped domain, or auctioned domain was a personal catfood blog. The domain had a generic name and great metrics.

Seller builds a general niche site, or even rebuilds a catfood site. But maybe they did not rebuild all the pages.

The PBN site starts losing links. It becomes weaker. Even better yet, some of the referring domains are not renewed. Then you have my personal favorite, the PBN domain now has 100 outbound links and the power is lessened.

The longer most networks are around, the weaker they get.

Let's Recap

1. A single link pack will not rank a site.

2. Take every review with a grain of salt - you never know how the links were used or what is required to rank the reviewers keyword.

3. Sellers only sell links - Not Results.

4. Some links will never index.

5. Permanent means the seller will not delete the links.

6. Most PBN networks will go down within 10 months.

7. You PBN links will most likely become weaker over time.

This isn't the whole truth. Some sellers are great. But you should not expect any more from any seller.

You need to constantly build links when using public link building services to even maintain your results.

Link renting can be a better choice, but at the end of the day, you need to first learn what works. And when you go to buy links, you must have both eyes open. This is a business, and if you are niave you will be slaughtered.

Permanent super awesomness PBN links can also mean we move your order over to shit domains
after 4 or so months thus causing a drop in rankings you don't blame on the provider.

High quality and I mean HIGH QUALITY networks charge on the recurring basis.
Guest post on the other hand with "real outreach" can be permanent. Not a blood covenant permanent, but permanent enough.

Anohter great post @lightningblitz

Public networks are viable only if they are rentals. The seller has no incentive to renew a domain he has already sold links on. Kind of shitty, but the truth.

Now that I have not noticed. Maybe because I use my links right, or that didnt hurt my rankings too much.

But the bait and switch? Now I am going to be paranoid and check some of my projects.

Nice to see such threads from you again @lightningblitz. :)
Hope to see you turn light blue soon, you deserve it.

Happy to be posting again.

Kind of shitty. But only a few sellers make the false promisses.

We, the buyer, assume one time payment means the links are around for good.

I wish that were true.

I found a seller on here who had done that, all 10 of the link s from a review packet had vanished in under 10 months.
They refused to answer my questions about this and things spiralled downhill quite quickly.

They were quite happy to sell and not bother renewing the domains etc, needless to say they thought they were laughing all the way to the bank.
It's better to pay monthly and know the sellers are maintaining their domains and network, than go for the $1 a link one off payments for the cheap links which vanish 9 months down the line.

What is amazing / sad is you were lucky to last 9 months.

Since you were smart enough to notice the links dropped, you could do something.

Most people think SEO doesnt work.

Thank you for sharing. The more trusted people who speak up, the more the message will resonate.

I think this is why everyone warns about your own due diligence.

The bait and switch is a thing, unfortunately. Realistically they can't keep their premium domains from being spammed
to high heaven if they kept onboarding copious amounts of clients "permanently" on a domain.

Renting monthly ensures those clients get exclusive rights to homepage links.

Good write up =)

True. And the 'permanent' PBNs means a few months in some cases.

Sure I found a couple of sellers that would replace the link if the previous pbn is no longer live.
Strange enough one guy replaced my links after 6 months, even though it was part of a review copy.
So there are exceptions as well.

Understandably.

This is just worse than what I see, the drop off.

No telling what the links will be replaced with.

That is something BHW is good about, replacing links if caught.

But that is the exception to the rule.

Great post @lightningblitz lot of very true, but often overlooked, points in there.

I fixed that broken image link for you.

Thank you. Tried twice, but posting on mobile doesnt always work out.

Edit:

Now it doesnt want to work. Brilliant!

Re-fixed - seems like pixabay does not like hotlinked images so I re-uploaded it to imgur and linked from there.

Thank you David.

Downfall of BHWing on my phone, its hard to fix issues like that.

I got the imgur app on my iPhone and it works well - you can download images from the net, then add them to the app and generate a url for adding to a post in a few clicks.

That sucks man. I understand that you can't expect the network to be alive for a decade. But at least a few years 3 - 5 would justify the 'permanent link' tag in the sales copy.

Just to play Devil's advocate, but, what's wrong with having only a few months of shelf life for a good high metric relevant link, if it's disclosed upfront that the link will be temporary? It should just mean that such links will only have X value, compared to links that last longer, for X + more value? Even big premium editorial sites have pages that expire or become broken when they change things around---and there goes your great link when that happens. So these kind of changes shouldn't automatically be called a scam, just saying.

is there a service you do recommend? or is building your own pbn a better idea. p.s. i'm just starting my first dropshipping project so i'm a newb
