Anyone here knows or has a positive opinion about the Tor project?


Tor is free software and an open network that helps you defend against a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security known as traffic analysis.

Well tor is often used by paedophiles to surf the deep web and watch child porn and its damn slow
 
There are better proxy choices but you'll have to pay. Tor is slower than shit.
 
I remember a few years back I read somewhere that with Tor you were exposed to Man-in-the-middle attacks, but I am not 100% sure.

EDIT: After some googling and reading, it indeed puts you at risk.
 
Problem with TOR is that most of its build in IP's (aka proxies), have already been used by some spammer outhere and probably blacklisted already.

Moreover, sometimes its host name says cleary: "torbrowser" or something like that. And, it doesn't support Flash, so you cannot really watch porn on public websites unless you hack it, which totally ruins your anonymity.
 
I like Freenet better, its like Torrent/Bitcoin - all the web resources are stored on P2P network.
 
I've used Tor. The only downside I came across during the time I used it was that it WAY slow (at least for me it was).

It can be used to get access to sites with other proxys like HF, also it will clear history and you will never be victim of password stealing.
It will redirect to HTTPS if it's possible (if you're using wii-fi connection)

perfect for getting on the silk road. sometimes it is fast, sometimes its slow. kind of a crap shoot. Awesome idea though!

Tor is good in terms of providing anonymity, but it has its flaws. A setup with TOR plus anon VPN is one of the best ways you can be anonymous online on a budget.
VPN recommendations? try vpntunnel.se // they do not log any traffic.
 
Yeah it was pretty cool when I first discovered it (before I knew what proxies were)....and you're able to access The Silk Road (for those who are interested). But it really is slow, and sometimes the sites don't even load, a lot of sites are restricted, but you also can access a lot of sites normally restricted to the public. I'm not sure if the Tor network is the only way to access those sites, I haven't tried on a proxy or VPS, but I would think so....I was able to get a whole bunch of downloads on the Tor Wiki. It's pretty cool to see what people talk about as well. There are no limits, since everyone is anonymous (or assumes they are) they talk openly and freely about pretty extreme things, that one might not talk about on another forum.

I'm sure the level of anonymity is decent, but I wouldn't bet on it being 100%. I tried to use it for Google Accounts a few times and it took FOREVER.
 
Tor only has one practical use in my opinion, which is visiting sites on the underweb . If you plan on using it for aff blackhat methods, you will need to chain a good socks 5 proxy or use a decent VPN like mullvad, which does not keep any logs .

P.S like was said above Tor can be vulnerable to man in the middle attacks (MitM)[FONT=DejaVu Sans, Verdana, sans-serif] [/FONT]so if anonymity is a concern then maybe consider using Tails plus public wifi

I've used multi tor on $5 vps as proxies alternative on scrape box and some other tools as well. Configured auto changing every 5 minutes,back to work in seconds, so can run hours without getting banned from Google search.
