Ok so to start off making no sense I understand what a backlink does.
But what i'm confused is what the hell it is..
Is it just your full website url posted on you're profile page.
Ex- I post black hat world's home page website link which is in the website bar (which is what I think the backlink is but i'm not to sure on that part) on my main page which you are redirected to when you click my name is a back link.

yes i'm stupid you can call me that : / But also give me the answer.

A backlink is nothing more than a link on someone else's website that leads back to yours. It doesn't matter what page on your site it links to, if it's a link to your site and it's on another website, it's a backlink.
 
A backlink can be the URL as you guessed. It can also be a contextual/anchor text link
1: URL: www.blackhatworld.com
2: Anchor text: Blackhat World or Best Damn IM Forum


Obviously my examples aren't technically backlinks since I linked from BHW to BHW but you get the idea

Backlinks are created for helping a website / webpage to get top ranking at Google for targeted keyword. And also getting direct traffic if the sources have high traffic.
 
Backlink is mere the process of creating an external link to the main money site.

There are no "stupid questions". A backlink is a link to your site from any other site, simple as that. A backlink can help your site's search engine visibility, but it can also harm it, it depends from where the backlink is coming from (pagerank of the site linking to you site,visitors, etc.). Good backlinks are ones coming from high PR sites and not may of them. For example 2 backlinks in a day from a PR6 site in your niche. There are also dofo llow and nofollow links, dofo llow is good for your site and nofollow is bad, because the google crawler does not "follow" the nofollow links back to your site. Hope this is enough to get you started, you can also do a google search for backlinks and find even more staff.

This is far from the most stupid questions ever. I go t into a fight the other day by asking a stupid question. A car in front of me started thru the intersection, then slammed on his brakes, even though the light was green. I couldn't stop so I taped his car in the ass with mine.

He got pissed, opened his door and jumped out.

He was a dwarf. Driving a Cadillac. I will admit I was not expecting that.

It just struck me as comical, this person of so little stature climbing out of a big Caddie looking all pissed. I got out to talk to him, and he walked up and said to me "I am NOT happy"

Before I could stop myself, I blurted out "Well which one are you then?"

I've noticed usually cadillac's around here are being driven by short women lol. Did everything turn out ok?

no you are not stupid, bcoz it's genuine/reasonable question, there are lots of people who asked really stupid questions.
I think now you got the main idea of backlink that it's link on other's website that refers/leads back to your website...

Seriously now - for Google backlinks are somethink like a vote on your site. And also they help indexing your site too.
