So, there's an activity in my older girl's (6 yo) kindergarten where they collect empty drink bottles for recycling.
It's a very common thing and it exists in most kindergartens around here.
It teaches kids about recycling, it's semi-competitive because the kid who brings the most gets a medal, and it raises some extra money because each empty bottle is worth the equivalent of 7-8 cents.

We started collecting bottles since the beginning of the year, and being the over-exaggerated, too-competitive and stupidly-obsessive person that I am, I don't allow anyone of our wider family to throw any bottle they have.

We collected about 360 bottles since september 1st, and I felt we have a good lead, so I asked the kindergarten teacher's assistant to a have a look at the scores.

Not only we weren't at the top, but the kid in the 1st place had more than 300 bottles more than we had. My daughter didn't care and nor did my wife, but it killed me knowing that that kid would get the medal and not my daughter.

So I went to another kindergarten and told them this:
You sell the bottles you collect, right? I'll buy them at 1 cent more than you sell it to the company that buys them. So I promised I'll buy the next batch they sell.

They were happy, I was happy, my kid didn't care and my wife looked at me with an expression that showed how much she regretted marrying me. but I had the bottles.
There was one little thing that I didn't know at the time that would change the scope of this idea: they can only sell their bottles every time they get to 1000.

How bad can it be? 1000 bottles can't be that much. 20 minutes and I'm done. The kindergartens are not that far from each other. I bought the bottles and started moving them from one kindergarten to the other.

2.5 hours later, I finished.
This is, by the way, how much space 1000 bottles take. More than I though, I must admit. My wife was right again.

HOA didn't come knocking yet?

Not a parent yet, but I read this and my first thought was... "Yeah seems normal enough."

And internally, I was and am super proud of you. That's one helluva dad thing to do. Kiddo's too little realise how awesome of a dad she got. And congratulations to her for the medal. ❤️

Blackhat to the core. Love it!

Uhmmm. Well. I'd be pissed about all the trash too xD. But it shows how competitive and entrepreneurial you are... Also very blackhat, just manipulating the score to get what you want. It's shitloads of trash though.

Maybe I should've been clearer, but all the bottles are in the kindergarten, and in a day or two the recycling company will come and get them.

This line is just epic. Made me laugh a bit. (Don't mean to offend you OP). :)
It should have been a funny story, after all..

Wow sums up this post! That's incredible. I love it. Any trouble from the neighbours?
No problems with the neighbors, all the bottles are at the kindergarten.

Pardon my language, but that’s honestly fucking awesome.

This will most definitely be one of those (at first silly) stories that your girl will be remembering fondly when she’s a bit older.
100%, I think in 5 or 10 years or 15 years, you will have a huge laugh at this situation, and she will see that her dad did everything he could for his daughter to win.
I surely hope so.. Making these

Thanks man, and I really hope I won't need to buy another batch. My whole body burns as if was into sports again.

What a proud!! What we do for the family!
And it just scratches the surface..

Bro it's like you are the one who wants to win.
Well... Yeah...

You made them both happy, you made the school a bit richer, and mother earth thanks you aswell, that's a Win Win Blackhat strategy sir.
Yeah, just paying for the right to move bottles from one kindergarten to another lol

This is the school's problem now..

Blackhat to the core. Love it!
Hell yeah!!

How long has that been sitting there?

Had a good laugh reading this but yeah… these schools do too much bullshit activities. Most of the weekends we can’t stay at home coz our 6yo son was selected for some cultural shite and we have to take him to practice and bla… I am like, why torture the parents like this??? But meh… we apparently are the “uneducated people” the way the teachers behave when we tell this to them lol (just kidding, they are decent).

Congratulations to the family!
The trophy looks great!

Your kids now have something to remember, everything is posible.
