Did you clear your cache? I don't think I have ever needed to do that before but it can't hurt to give it a shot. Sometimes I do have to press f12 on my browser and then clear cache and hard reload the page to see changes.So when i add a custom Meta Description(i use The SEO Framework) it looks like it worked but when i visit my site it's still the same as before? Yes that might be the case i have GDPR Cookie Compliance installed as well, when i search for my site i see that disclaimer and not my meta description as well? Maybe that is causing the problem?What other addons do you have installed?

a premium theme doesnt mean its free from corruption, but usually corruption happens after installation

use a staging site, if you can't read source files properly, try a fresh install and test etc
or ask, your hosting provider, depends woh they are, they might do it and check for u
