The Secret

This movie was suggested on here as a good inspirational movie so I decided to download and watch it.

Alright so according to this documentary, the secret to being wealthy and leading a happy life, is visualizing positive scenarios in which you achieve the goals you've set for yourself. All negative thoughts and negative associations must be removed from your life. When you are able to control your thoughts and have these positive visualizations, the universe will give you the results eventually.
Now there's nothing wrong with thinking positive and visualizing a bright future, however this movie preaches it in such a way that all you have to do is just that and the universe will magically give it to you. Really?

Example from the movie:

There's this guy, carries a rock around in his pocket for good luck. Kid in South Africa gets hepatitis, guy sends a rock, kid is cured. Cool stuff..

About an hour into the movie, I just fucking snapped. Some dumb bitch comes in, talking about how she had cancer. By thinking positive, watching comedy shows and denying the fact that she had cancer, she was cured within 3 months. How fucking dare this cunt spread such horrible distortions into this world. I've had family members with cancer stay really, really positive until the end. There are children with leukemia in children's hospitals that keep on going to school and playing with other kids and their toys until the very end. What the fuck is wrong with this woman? Even if only ONE PERSON would believe her stupid lies, get ill and DENY the illness altogether, that bitch is a fucking murderer in my eyes. Gawd, I really can't express how loathsome I think this is.

I haven't watched the remaining 20 minutes but I guess its more of the same crap.

Now I'm not saying that there's no truth to what these people are saying. Yes, positive thinking is important, yes believing in yourself is good, yes you control your actions and your future, but to preach it in such a way where you basically tell people to write down their goals and the universe will magically give you stuff is obviously bullshit. Some of these guys just made me feel uncomfortable, like I had ended up in some sort of cult. Blegh.

Those can't be termed as wholly distortions IMO. Your sub-conscious mind is a power house and it can bring about wonderful, even magical results if it can be "programmed" in a systematic way. Sometimes your thoughts are also very potent and powerful. Some believe it, some see the results, some just say it's impossible...

I like the subject as a study material into the mystical powers of sub-conscious, but that video is put up by a bunch of marketers, and so some parts are unbelievable. But even those things have been achieved, but the medical world, for a definite selfish purpose, doesn't give any credit to those who have witnessed the "miracles".

The rocks are symbolic. People who have been sick will believe in any "pathy" and very often it gives them relief. There are methods to bring about "cures" when Medical world has nothing to offer. It's metaphysics, and the realm of metaphysics is beyond the borders of physical laws (means, those laws or workings are yet unproven by existing instruments).

Consider this phenomenon same as laws of gravity before Newton formulated the working and the world got a few forumlae to work out the gravitation and movement... but those laws always existed in this world, didn't they?

There's loads of examples from people refusing to take medicine or chemo therapy and instead turned to a medium or otherwise religious lunatic. Believing with all their power that they shall be cured. Believing that they didn't have cancer. Guess what happened to them?

It really sickens me when a person says this.

Like I said, its not that I don't believe in action-reaction or karma, it's the fact that you would give this as an example to people who might actually believe it and go about it completely wrong. It's just as dangerous as leading people into a cult imo.

EDIT: It's not a discussion of religion or believing or not. That's fine, people may believe what they like and I have absolutely no problem with that. But if you were to lure a person into believing something that could cost them their life, that's where I draw the line.

It's your own belief against someone's claim that it happened.

It could have happened actually, and its natural that 99% world would not believe! Medical world and today's science would love to shred the claims by using their super instruments for judgement! Whereas some believe that the instruments to prove how they work or don't work are yet to be designed... may be, in this century we may have a new para-medical science working along with the medical science. "Miracles" wouldn't be an unbelievable word then.

People today in all part of the world, advanced world including, have turned to such methods because they cannot afford to pay for the treatment offered by today's medicine. Naturally there will be pimps around to manipulate them. But that doesn't mean that such "miracle-like" things do not happen.

Again, there are pimps who would use such incidents for their own evil designs. That's what is happening to a great field of meta-science today. Would you be shocked to know that people are been forcefully admitted to hospitals by many real doctors, and then their body parts are being taken out and sold to gain wealth while the patient is given a believable reason for the removal? It's a way these pimp-doctors work today and abuse a great system of medicine. Does that make the whole science of medicine dirty?... so is this field of meta-physics where there are rules and laws of its working, but there aren't any instruments to see how it works on a human body, or how things can be materialized from "thin air"...

It isn't a matter of which is right, it's a matter of preaching a certain methodology that is dangerous. She cured from cancer while being positive, that's fine. Other people cured while they were negative, given up on life because they knew they were gonna die.

I do believe in the placebo effect. Thinking something is going to happen and it will happen. That affects me almost daily. But I would never try to convince people that I can cure horrible diseases with it.

Well if you can't afford the hospital whatsoever then sure, try anything, it doesn't really matter. If someone talks you out of getting medical treatment because of whichever (religious, spiritual) reason, that's poison in my eyes.

Can't find the sources but in my land it happens frequently. What if I tell you it happened to at least one person I personally know, would you believe me? And that's not an isolated case. I'm a doctor myself, and have known the facts over a long time. There are various news articles in our newspapers, and such things are happening at regular intervals all over the land. Most of the time, nothing happens to the doctors and the hospitals, sadly.

I too believe that no one should be stopped and diverted from his/her attempt to get PROPER medical treatment. But that proper med treatment has become out-of-reach for most, and there there are touts and p1mps to misuse the belief of common people. Hence those videos, and those marketers who don't give the real reasons why things happen the way they do. It still doesn't mean that things cannot happen without a base for its provings. I'm defending only the metaphysics and its existence, but of course I don't have a way to show how it happens because I believe there are only a few real masters who understand the way they work and can demonstrate the working every time. May be they have their own reasons for not coming forward and demonstrate their mastery.

The same happened before 1970s to the martial arts world. The Chinese and Japanese had very highly learned masters in the field but they chose to keep the art/science of martial arts a secret. It's the same way that the working are hidden in today's materialistic work, I suppose...

So why should any one go into the hospital where their own body parts are stollen and sold on black markets? These are not isolated cases but just known cases. There are thousands more who are yet not detected, or have "somehow" managed to stay out of the detection scope.

So it's natural that those marketers are coming forward with their own version of metaphysical cures, thus diluting the real science behind its workings and giving it a bad name already. These marketers could have shown the cured person's actual medical history and the "cure" reports. There could and would be real cases, but most probably they found a model to enact their lines as a shortcut.

There's a lot more going on in The Secret that you realize OP. You have to read between the lines and listen to EVERY detail in the movie. People manifest abundance and wealth, and wellness using the secret because of the ACTIONS they taken IN CONJUNCTION with BELIEVING THEY DESERVE whatever it is that they are wanting. It's the combination of mindset AND action. Not just one or the other. Your actions have to match your mindset, otherwise it doesn't work. I'm living proof that it works from a financial perspective (Ive worked for myself as an IMER for over 4 years now, and am making more that I ever dreamed I would working for myself), and also....my mom had cancer, and was able to overcome it by having a positive attitude, KNOWING without a doubt that she would be healed, and taking the right steps to heal herself (eating healthy, quitting bad habits that weakened her immune system). She's been cancer free for 3 years. It's real my friend, trust me.

Be careful about bashing "The Secret" OP, there are a lot of members on BHW who blindly follow this shit.

This is exactly the sort of crap that pisses me off. My mom had cancer and stayed super positive, also knowing without a doubt she would be healed, and also took all steps you mentioned. She passed away 6 months ago.

Believing in yourself can without a doubt make you reach your goals and fulfill all your life dreams. Just don't spread such bullshit pinning some 'self believe' system on serious disease.

The world will get better when people discover/realize the truths in The Secret themselves, not when it's shown or marketed to them. Why this is, and why it hasn't happened yet, is one subject of many mysteries and religions.

I think that even when you guys think it is shit, you should respect people who believe in these things. What makes it worse than any religion for example? It is just being positive about life and feeling better, I see nothing bad on it. I mean if you dont believe it, it is okay. But dont call them stupid just because they dont think like you.
