This is what I hear all the time:

"i got sandboxed for too many backlinks."

Since I sell backlinks, I consider myself a little bit of an expert on the subject. I process about 75 orders a week, all bulk backlink packages of 2400 backlinks or more and I can tell you that there's no such thing as "too many backlinks". It will not sandbox you. The most that may happen is Google will see a lot of new pages indexed that are relevant to your keyword after you run a bulk backlink campaign and it will re-rank everything for that keyword. You're basically causing Google to work on overdrive for that keyword by throwing tons of new relevant pages into its index. It's called a Google Dance. So you may lose ranking for a couple days as it shuffles around, but chances are you'll come back stronger than you were before the campaign started.

The only reason why this might not be the case is your on-site SEO, starting with the title tag. It's amazing to me when people complain that they aren't ranking and then I look at their site and the keyword isn't in the title tag. I laugh and then I cry a little. This is SEO 101, folks. First put your keyword at the beginning of the title tag on the page you are trying to rank. Then run your link campaign. If you were sandboxed before the campaign, I can pretty much guarantee you will not be anymore. Try to remember that Google cares about relevancy. So without the keyword in your title tag, you are not relevant and therefore get sunk down to page 2485 in the index.

The last thing to remember is that if you don't put your keyword as the anchor text in all your backlinks, then those links are not going to count for helping rank you for your keyword. This is also SEO 101, but it's still pretty amazing that people don't know it.

I hope this helps some new SEO folks out.

If i understand you correct there is no reason then to not BH a site with links ?

Exactly.

I've been selling links for quite a while now and I always snicker a little when a new client is concerned about it. I do this day in and day out and I monitor my customers' rankings and there is simply no evidence that too many links hurts you. The worst that could happen is that a link might get devalued, but your site will never be penalized for it.

this is the kinda of thing that people has been always talking about...some experts says it does exist and some don't...

I did a write up a couple of weeks ago debunking a lot of the sandbox myth. Matt Cutts eludes to a sandbox effect for some niches but never has stated that there's actually a sandbox.

If you have been de-indexed for a length of time then you likely received a manually reviewed google penalty for running a site filled with spam/virus/illegal content.

or buying links....
but whats happen is that sometimes people do all this stuff you mentioned plus building a lot of backlinks and then say that it happened because of the backlinks...

building a lot of backlinks, even spam ones, wont harm a website..

The sandbox has been misinterpreted.

Google CAN'T deindex or sandbox you based on your backlinks.

They can only penalize you based on your onpage seo, so most people who get sandboxed or deindexed are doing either:

1)Keyword stuffing, tag stuffing, title stuffing
2)Linking to bad neighborhood sites such as malware, warez, viagra, porn, etc.
3)Have too many link exchanges on their site
4)Have too many duplicate content
etc

@Jericho, interesting, where can I read your write up? PM me. And what you say about the de-indexing thing is also true, according to my daily bulk linking experience. Anyone knowingly creating sites with malware is a jerk anyway and I hope they eventually get arrested and ass-raped in prison.

@c0rup7, get over it. the spirit of this website is to share knowledge, I'm just trying to be a good citizen :P

Buying links won't get your site penalized, are you crazy? Did you read my post? LOL

If you buy links from what use to be the big networks like textlinkbrokers, etc. you will not get any of the benefits, since most of those page ranks were reduced due to association with link buying sites.

However, if a person bought links from another person or a smaller unknown network, then google wouldn't really know.

But the page ranks for most service sites selling backlinks have been reduced.

Not true.

On the contrary, if you perform experiments like a good little scientist, you can reverse engineer pretty much anything. Which is what I've done.

Right, but my point is that you won't get penalized for buying links. Links can get devalued, sure, but your site will never get penalized for a link being pointed at it, doesn't matter if it was bought or who it was bought from.

I don't now if you call it sandbox or somehow else but even on Google webmasters forum there are many pages about Google penalties "-30 penalty", "-60 penalty" and "-995 penalty". You should read that before writing such a post. Even technicians from google admit that google penalize pages for buying links so google penalty does exist.

I had a website earning 5K a month for many month and it's hit with -30 penalty for 3 months now for excessive backlinking and it's making only $200 now.

There is even tool to check google penalty here:

Penalty MY ASS, I don't see any penalty given by google to websites with more than 1million backlinks and an age of 2 years or less...

I can't find one valid google source that refers to these penalties. On the contrary, I watched a live video interview with Matt Cutts at a Search Engine convention last year and he said flat out: "There are no such penalties in place. If your site isn't ranking well, it's because you aren't relevant to the keyword you are trying to rank for."

So if you could please post a valid google source to back up your claim, then I will take you more seriously.

Again, I've been selling backlinks for a long time and it's never affected my customers' sites. In fact, I have repeat customers ordering the same 2400 links package with the same keywords and urls a couple times a month, month after month, and their rankings have only improved. The customers who haven't improved in their rankings are clearly noobs since they don't have keywords in their title tags and other SEO 101 noob blunders.

I would have to analyze your site to get to the root of the problem, but I would suspect that you simply got outranked by other sites or Google updated their algorithm and all you need to do now is more link building to get it back up there.

As for this penalty checker tool, it's not a reliable source. Just because they have a nice looking website and a tool that says you are penalized or not doesn't mean you are. They don't explain how the tool works or what it's basing it's data on, it just runs and that's it. So again, give me something more credible and I'll take it more seriously.
