The Same Local Business: 2 Websites On Page One?

Hey,

I'm ashamed to say I don't know the answer to this one. I'm hoping some clever soul does!

I have an offline business that ranks on page 1 of google for the appropriate search term. Cool beans.

Now, my question:

Is it possible to rank a second website for that same business on page 1, too?

Both websites would have similar domain names, the physical addresses and telephone number, etc.

The reason for this is because the original site is coded in HTML and benefits from years of SEO. I have someone in mind to operate it for me (updating) but doing so with a Wordpress cms would be much easier for them. The plan, therefore, is to create a new site with WP as the cms and eventually rank it on page one. I don't care if the older site falls behind the new one in ranking or if both sit on page one.

Thoughts?

I didn't get this? Do you mean that the name will be same, just the domain extension will change.

Example: abc.com, abc.net or abc.org

I don't think there is anything wrong. Both domains are different and can be ranked in 1st page in Organic result. But do not use same content in both websites. Its OK if Address and phone nos is same.

I was hoping this would be the case. It's not often I encounter a stumbling block with SEO, but this is new territory for me and searching around yielded no answers.
 
If the goal is to replace the old site eventually anyway why don't you 301 your ranking site to a new WP site rather than have 2 simultaneously?

yes its possible but from a marketing standpoint you might want them to appear to be different companies; different names, different address, different telephone, different site/theme/photos etc.

the reason is shoppers will often call on different companies to compare prices. if it appears that you are the same they may skip you. if you appear different you have a 2nd shot at capturing that client, plus you get to set the market- price wise.

something to think about...
 
Sure, why not! Though it might take some more resources to bring the second site to the first page, it would probably be worth it if you're receiving good amount of traffic on the first site. But make sure to keep working on the first site to maintain its position.

And after both of your websites are on the top, it would eventually increase your revenues and in case if any one of them drops, you would still have one of them there so its a profit-profit deal.
 
It really depends what you want out of this? Is it just because of the domain name or the cms? if its the domain name then 301 but if you just want to use wordpress, develop the site and then upload it to the old domain.
 
I have anywhere from 3 to 6 different websites all ranking page 1 for the same keywords, more on page 2. Company name, phone number and address are all the same.
What pisses me off is another company has 3 of the adword spots taken with their company using different websites and phone numbers.
 
Yeah, you can definitely do it. I have a handful of keywords where 2 pages from one of my domains and a page from another domain are all hanging out on
page 1. Same address, same phone number, and one way footer links from the older brand to the newer one.

Definitely have unique content on each. I screwed myself on that and let amazon enjoy outranking me for a bunch of stuff while both of my sites suffered from panda for a couple weeks when they started getting serious about all that.


It's a personal decision of course, but I don't understand why its preferable to 301 it instead of taking that extra real estate in the serp.
 
yeh, why not convert your old site to wordpress ?
As its already on no1. ?
