Google released a document on how to appropriately link out to other sites.
The guide contains what you most likely know but it seems like Google encourages giving out d0 follow links, contrary to what many people think.

This is the Google document on the subject; https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/links-crawlable

The above is what Google has to say about no follow links. If you trust the source you're linking to, d0 follow it is.

oh, so the fuckers want us now to give d0follow links because too many nofollow ones screw their algorithm, huh!

In other words, backlinks are as important as ever, otherwise we would not get a tutorial from google themselves on how to create backlinks. Good to know, good to know...

EDIT: I'll still not use a god damn single "sponsored" link, though...

Do you frequently link out? Or do you sell guest posts on your money site?

I believe that soon the EAT will be one of the main ranking factors on a par with links or even higher:)

I don't know, but it seems that way to me)

EEAT is based on links so that will not happen.

I never use 'sponsored' tags in my website even when I am selling a backlink. And why should I? Client does not want it and Google will never come to know if the link is sold or natural.

As far as giving a D0follow link is concerned, this is what Yoast has been saying for years. So I do not mind giving one or two d0follow links out to reputable resources.

Link out to authority site is a practice why authority sites control google first page nowadays.

I remember 4 or 5 years ago, seo guru told us to link out to authority sites to increase relevance. It's a BS.

The fact that G has no competion made them retarded.......these backlink requirements are useless AF...mark the link you have been paid for with "sponsored"....for what? So they can use this data for a future penalty? G is relying heavily on user data and behaviour..... don't feed it more than you have to.

A lot of people are puzzled by Google's link policies because of perspective issues.

You have to understand that Google doesn't need any of us here on this forum, only its actual users

That's why its link policies reflect this reality.

If you are linking to your page or somebody is linking to you, the bottom line is quite straightforward.

There has to be added value to the page being linked to that makes the page being linked from more compelling or useful.

That's the bottom line.

When you're linking to another page, whether on your site or somebody else's site, you are making a recommendation.

You're putting some of your credibility on the line.

People who are building backlinks on a wholesale level have forgotten about this, and that's why they get dinged sooner rather than later.

Do yourself a big favor.

Circle back to the initial purpose behind linking and its focus on value, and you wouldn't have to worry about building quality backlinks again.
