I can easily rank with a free domain name by building backlinks. I'm sure .info works just as well.

The thing is you guys need to stop worrying if a .info can rank at all. It can, and will rank up nicely. Look at it this way, most of the websites we build today is all about information in them. .info happen to stand for "information" as well which makes it even more relevant. People say .info can't rank it's because they don't want to waste their time on trying to rank it, always being so paranoid.

Slap a wordpress on that .info and watch it grow.

I haven't had a problem ranking .infos. You hear people saying it will take more work then other extension but I haven't seen any definitive data on it. More importantly, I haven't seen a difference with my own sites between and info/com/net/org. I also do well with the .us extension. As thewant said, if you put in the work, you can rank anything.
