A good blog post should be anywhere between 600 to 1000 words. Keywords that are relevant to your niche, long tail keywords with low competition work best.

a good title, around 500 words without the title, atleast 3 paras like Introduction, description and conclusion. describing the sources if you have any information thats' enough.

Be informative, offer solution or analyze common problem people face in your niche especially one that is had to find.
Think of why people have to visit SEOmoz, Search Engine Land and the rest, just because they have something valuable to say patterning SEO, Google update and the likes.
It doesn't really matter so long as you get the word out since it's your blog.
Anything from 250+ is ok.
As a new blogger, you will need to work with keywords to generate some traffic, simply use Google keyword tool to find low competitive keywords to target in your blog title, content and tags.
However, i will prefer to use a customized blog for exponential growth and things like branding.

The perfect blog post should leave the reader hungry to read more of your content or sign up to your list.
I ensure that every post I write on my blog offers nothing but quality content from start to finish with the idea that people will be drooling all over the keyboard trying to sign up to the list.
It has nothing to do with word count or keyword density (neither of which I check)

Many good and valid points in here.
Personally I won't worry about length of the blog post at all. In general with 400+ words you'll be okay. Most people won't even start reading your post though, when it's about 1500 words or more, unless you're an excellent writer and catch them right away.
Use h1 til h3 wisely and use a few photos.
My best advice would be: Have fun writing your blog post!

I think the ideal post would be about 500-1000 words long depending on subject matter, and have about a 1-2% keyword density rate. Have some use of the keyword in the first two paragraphs, and after the first paragraph you should probably have a photo. Maybe not a nude Angelina Jolie one, as you do want people to eventually click through to something else. Also try to tie it in as far as possible with current events, the more relevant it is the more chance of passing traffic stopping by.

Subheadings is a must because people don't read articles, they skim.
Focus on Short paragraphs in the article because there's no point forcing your reader to go through lengthy paras. It's a "NO" from me.
Avoid using jargon as much as you can.
Use the K.I.S.S formula, which means "keep it short and simple".
