So I should be developing content or doing KW/Product research, but here I am in the lounge. IDK about you guys but when I'm reading a guide thread here or browsing some SEO's blog I like to take notes. I was doing some casual research into the benefits of handwriting vs. typing. Basically, handwriting any type of content translates to an increased ability to accept, retain, and recall that information both on a factual and conceptual level. Obviously all of us do the majority of our work planted in front of a computer screen, but how many of you also have a notepad on your desk?

... Immediately after the lecture, both longhand and laptop notetakers did well on the factual recall questions, but the longhand notetakers did better on conceptual understanding questions. A week later, the longhand advantage was even stronger, with those students doing better on both factual recall and conceptual understanding questions. This, in spite of the fact that the students using laptops took more notes than the longhand notetakers

"Those who took notes in longhand, and were able to study, did significantly better than any of the other students in the experiment â€” better even than the fleet typists who had basically transcribed the lectures. That is, they took fewer notes overall with less verbatim recording, but they nevertheless did better on both factual learning and higher-order conceptual learning."

In three studies, we found that students who took notes on laptops performed worse on conceptual questions than students who took notes longhand. We show that whereas taking more notes can be beneficial, laptop note takers' tendency to transcribe lectures verbatim rather than processing information and reframing it in their own words is detrimental to learning.

I have notepad, note cards, sticky notes on my desks.

I found if I copy|paste info, then it isn't quite as retained immediately, but I haven't noticed any difference in information absorption or retention if I type or write.

I am just now writing stuff down with a pen and paper. I have never taken much stock in how writing things down matters but now as I am reading more books and watching interviews with successful people they all have claimed to write their ideas, thoughts, and dreams down on paper. I am going to give it a try for a few months.
