Just within the last few months we have crossed into a territory where Facebook is hyped by virtually everyone. Advertisers on television are advertising their Facebook pages over their websites. Books and movies are out about how Facebook got started. Investors are still looking to get a bit of the Facebeook pie. Some value it at $20 billion.

But if you look now, Facebook's numbers are slowing. It doesn't have the largest percentage gains like it did last year (200 - 400 millions fans 100% growth in less than a year). People are angry with the privacy concerns with Facebook. Oddly enough, accounts are not deleted they are simply "disabled".

So of the 500 million users, how many are disabled? How many are repeated accounts?

The price of a status update or a fan page is not what it was a few months ago. Facebook feels a bit like old news like I've heard enough about it in the news and elsewhere.

Okay, I'll bite but for one over-hyped Internet vehicle to fade another must take its place as for example Yahoo being overtaken by Google. So what's the next wave in Web 2.0?

No idea. I think the next big thing is still miles away. Facebook has all the indicators of a overhyped company BUT there isn't any competitor in the distance to fall too. I suspect if a few big things do come around, Facebook will crash hard.

i'm guessing that of those 500 million probably 100 million are duplicates/spammers/disabled

and of the remaining only a small percentage use the site frequently or have lots of friends and networks. Facebook may be a goldmine for spammers but legit advertisers are probably getting a poor ROI because the demographics of facebook suck in general for marketing purposes. That's why spammers need such high volume. I have also noticed that I am getting far fewer USA clicks for CPAl34d and lower payouts. this probably reflects the diminished value of facebook users and facebook users ignoring ads.

Reason facebook is so good at blocking spam is because it's nothing but blackhatters running the damn thing.

I agree. I'm also thinking someone from Google has an account on this forum and every IM forum, spying on every spam software we have.:stupido3:

You're damn right they do. And for anyone who thinks they don't is in denial.
Google has already been busted on many occasions invading people's privacy on the internet.

i dont know what ur talking about?...the dude said FACEBOOK...AND UR TALKING ABOUT GOOGLE???...anyway...u do realize that the dudes working at fb and google are some of the best and smartest programmers in the world...and they are getting top pay for their efforts which is the best incentive i can think of...they can pretty much figure out anything we can here...but its a matter of how patching an exploit or whatever will effect the user experience of their respective sites...this cat and mouse game is getting tiring tho...i can tell u that!!

It definitely does feel like facebook is peaking, it does have at least 2-3 more years at the top though. Back when myspace peaked in 2007 facebook was just starting to get popular. But at this point in time I see nothing competing with facebook.

we do got fb snitches in this forum but not sure if we have an fb employee.

anyways, FFAP is still going strong and still hasn't received anything from FB from my understanding.

How was he sued 3 days after the software was released? He has the software released for months, if not a few years, before it was shut down a few months ago.

Also, I see nothing on PACER for any lawsuit against an individual brought by "Facebook, Inc."

That's what happens when lawsuits turn into criminal cases.

This is an interesting point, regarding the disabled & repeated accounts also like myspace a few years ago!
