Those guys sold basically over 30k (before shark tank) units of a fake plastic phone.

It's just the chance success of a novelty. I suppose there's some psychology to things like this.
 
Novelty items might sustain an entrepreneur throughout his or her career, but real businesses are created on value. Dont let this fool you, you might get lucky once or twice, but dont think making hoooorahs like these will lead anywhere in the long run.

This reminds me of that book "What Men Think About Apart From Sex."

It's a book full of blank pages that somehow sold a ton of copies.

There are lots of "real" businesses that are make and sell novelty items.
