The secret to being a successful marketer is to do things the way they are supposed to be done. Period!
How do you do this? Well, I will give you a simple blueprint that works for Clickbank.
Here it is:
1. pick a high converting offer
2. Get a lead magnet
3. Create a squeeze page
4. Give visitors the lead magnet in exchange for opt ins
5. Give your subscribers good value
6. Stylishly market your offer to them in such a way that they would feel they really really need it
7. Money in the bank

It's that simple

You forgot 3.5 - Actually get [targeted] traffic. A lot of newbies get stuck there.

Targeted traffic really is key. Buying traffic gigs does NOT work.

In my opinion the best way for making long term steady income with clickbank is with micro niche sites. Once these sites are up, traffic can be brought in using:

SEO
YT
Q&As eg YA and quora
Meathead's method
Fb groups and fan pages
PPC including bing, adwords and fb ads
Pinterest
Twitter (if done right)
Forum posting
Guest posting
Solo ads
...and others!

The real secret to being a successful marketer is Consistency.:o:confused::eek::);)

Traffic, traffic, traffic.. That's where most people fall short (including me!). Mancar has hit the nail on the head though, as always.

What about direct link article marketing? I've always relied on that, and never gave e-mail marketing a serious shot. Does an offer always convert better when incorporated in an e-mail campaign, as opposed to directly linking to it from an article that presells it a bit?

With all respect a bit of a dumb question as it relies on many aspects but building a quility list will definitely earn more then what you are doing over time.

also don't forget to keep on learning! Marketing and selling is a science!
