Hello all,
I found this site sometime ago, but to be honest... didn't really consider it. The 'BlackHat' kinda put me off, but I'm here to be open minded in my new efforts.
I've been a mod/admin for a local club site, just a bunch of friends and locals sharing our passion for a hobby we all love to do. But I've decided to take this to the next level and see where it takes me. Without getting into specific's, it is an sport activity. There are many site out there that support this space (retail, personal site, directories and the like), but I personally feel this is a good thing... competition is a good in my option. Some have died, but from what I can tell (with my limit experience...) is they didn't keep going with the space... Content for the most part. And those that have prospered, have an active presence. My goal is to be part of this as an authority site. I'm looking to be in it for the LONG haul!!!
I don't have any real web skills (yet), but I am willing to learn... I'm more of an 'idea' guy. So I'm hoping I can lean on some of the seasoned members to point me down the right path... I'm willing to do the leg work, and the items outside of my skill set... I'll (learn) to outsource, which I know is a WHOLE different topic.
I know my niche, I know who the major players are... but what I lack is the research skills. I need to deep dive into Keyword Research and SEO. So... those that have been at this for a while (site Mods/Admin), knowing what you know now, starting off a new site... how would you approach this?
Any guides you would point to a beginner such as my self and move into more advance? I know there are tools such as SemRush & Ahrefs... but how do you use them? What are the steps? How do you use them in regards to the competition? And so many more. I have mildly read this site, but it can be a bit (ok... really) overwhelming amount of information to digest.
Sorry for the long winded intro post... but could really use some guidance. Hoping to LEARN alot here.
