The New BHW is Live

1) "Thanks" is called "Likes", "Ratings" and "Thanks" on different places of the new forum. I would prefer "Thanks".
3) Usernames are too small, it was already mentioned quite a few times above, so it's not really a new addition, but i do agree. Although maybe we just feel it this way, because on the current design, they're quite big.
4) If it's the final stage, the "Reply" and "Quote" button should be bigger too.
4) I agree with Apricot, the Jr VIP badge is pretty bad in itself and doesn't go well with the design, it extends over the avatar, i'm not sure if it's intentional or not though.
5) "Posts" is called "Messages". I prefer "Posts". Also on the profile page it's called "Postings".
6) No "Report Post" button, i guess this one will be added later.

+1 A star system with re-designed stars would be good, it's a lot easier to distinguish between member levels just by looking at them. If the stars need to go :(, maybe try to figure out something else to achieve the same.

Not everything is bad though, it's just that it's easier to point out the cons. Overall it looks good and it's fast, i mean very fast. :)
I'm not really a fan of changes like most people, but we will get used to the new look eventually.

I agree with your points, but I would say that the badges for VIP and Donors aren't bad, they just need a slight improvement. Yeah, don't get rid of the star system, maybe they should be sligthly improved too.

Just keep in mind what has happened to the Warrior Forum and CPAHero since they did there Facelifts earlier this year....

Massive decline in traffic and loss in Alexa rank...change pisses people off...remember that.

It's almost impossible to change a forum and have it come-out more successful. I've seen many a forum lose its steam do to a Facelift.

Sometimes its better to go with the old "If its not broken, don't fix it"

I'm shocked. That cpahero looks garbage now !

Its looks great to me, Specially name and picture with each thread :)

Thanks Duca

Per your points - we display unread topics by displaying a dot next to the unread thread. It helps with mobile optimisation. As bold on a smaller screen isn't as obvious.

Point 2 - We have something we're working on for that space. But agree with you it needs cleaning.

Looks good, but I would add the following:

  1. Unread thread topics should be in bold. read topics should have normal font.
  2. On mobile version, you should decrease space between avatar and user role. Also i would add some padding to users post and optionally get font size a little bit smaller. I would also remove
    Code:
    <div class="messageMeta ToggleTriggerAnchor"></div>
    if it is empty.

Thanks Mudbutt -

Re badge it's meant to look like it's hooking onto your image. Re - usernames these have now been updated.

On my firefox, the badge bleeds into the profile pic: http://cl.ly/27301U310V0G. I also think the usernames are much too small and/or the font is too narrow. Looks great otherwise!

Hi Bonaire
Glad we've taken you from
Agreed. Quite frankly, all of it looks terrible.

to 3 issues. Which I'll comment on below.

I will elaborate from my previous post;

1. The gradient where the red arrow is looks terrible in my honest opinion..Thanks that's a fair opinion..

2. I feel like the names are too small, and larger names were seemingly and somewhat unique to BHW. It has a 'feel' to it..You weren't the only one with that feedback - we've increased the size of the usernames to the same as the current BHW. .

3. The JR. VIP badge looks horrendous. I'd rather have no badge..You obviously caught us testing something - Jr. VIP badges were something we were trying - but have decided to stick with the simple username colour change.

Also, will there be a white theme? I'm currently using the lighter one on BHW.
.Hit the style chooser on the bottom of the page you will find a white version there.

Thanks bruno0

See post above ref style chooser. .

the BHW color scheme Black n Gold is always painful for my eyes. the current one is better as it has the Backlight vb4 templete too.
Can you please add the same to the new one?
I cant find the option anywhere.

Hi Syste M

I'm with you on the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" option - unfortunately the steady and significant decline of VBulletin and it's add-on's have pushed many forum owners into a tough decision. Do we keep patching essentially a broken product (at our cost - the v-bull releases just break everything) or do we move to a more stable and successful platform which gives us the ability to move BHW forward become a force for the future.

At BHW we've been considering our options and came to the same conclusion that others have - it's time to move on. Just like leaving that old partner - there will be tears, confusion, drama and a period of nostalgia ;) . BUT we're trying to mitigate that as much as we can and involving you, the fantastically knowledgeable and opinionated BHW community, we know we will successfully move to our new platform and continue the fantastic work but with the ability to develop and move forward rather than constantly patch.

This is more of a lung, liver, kidney and heart transplant than a simple "facelift" we hope you like what you see and can acknowledge the benefits moving the community onto a new platform will have. Keep tuned to the newsletter and announcements for new developments as they are released.

Quoting looks bit weird in the new platform. May be it needs some indentation and change of color.

The beta looks like a great job to me. It Retains the BHW feel and look, while also having a modern feel to it as well.

I like it. It kind of a has a better look and it is easier to use.

Cheers

Looks great! I am excited be able to use on my mobile device, Ipad,..

2-factor authentication through that Google app would be pretty neat. It would remove the headache of being asked for a new password every 90 days.

Any news on getting software/tools section in the marketplace? It would make things so much easier for ton of buyers in here...

Cheers macdonjo3

Agreed! It's the first thing we're releasing.

LQQKs great. More streamlined with a cleaner interface. And Responsive, A++

Hey McPatrick

Once the new forum is bedded in we're going to be totally rewriting the marketplace. All suggestions welcome. The inability of Vbull to be flexible enough to develop something sensible off was one of the key reasons to move on.
