For those of you who are running successful, profitable websites, i am just wondering what you would consider the most benefitial type of backlinking to be? From what I've read, recent updates have decreased the value of profile links. As a new member of this community, I am just trying to research the most cost effective option for me to raise my SERP on some fresh niche sites.

pyramid links are pretty hot right now but you still need diversity (article,web 2 blogs,social bookmarking,forum profiles etc)

I favour quality over quantity. Link pyramids work well, with large base pushing links one way to moneysite. Quality web 2.0 manual posts, with automated web 2.0, articles, bookmarking, RSS and pinging, forum and blog commenting. Fire lower quality links to base, an higher PR to web 2.0 or moneysite. Also consider high PR blog networks.

I believe adding rel no follow is a must now a days right? Though I don't understand it completely yet, I was told to do so.

Search google for your target keyword, get a link from the top 10 results and you basically have the most effective links possible. Will any of these sites do this for you.. NO!

^^ This. Links from sites that are already ranking in your niche are number one, followed by d0follow hardlinks with good anchor text from good pages on unrelated authority sites. You guys talking about article submissions are out of your minds.

Right now, mass syndicated press releases and article submissions provide the best back links for my sites.

Of course you're spot on with this, but these links are the hardest to get... can't automate or easily buy these kind of links?

So far effective for me: Blind Link Building..
Simply build links and build.. Dont look anything.. do-follow or nofollow..
Build links, ping them, feed them..

you will be rewarded..
