As a business owner and IMer,

what areas of the law should you be aware of?

Kinda vague I know but didn't wanted to limit the answers

You're right when you said its a vague question LOL!

There is too many things to list, you need to narrow it down a bit :)

The areas of the law you should be aware of are

as an offline business owner: accounting rules and laws (because you can be ripped of by your accountant and to know exactly how to pay less taxes)
as a IM'r: nothing, really. If you cover your tracks properly, you can do whatever you want.

I think you should start with the ones that are applicable to what you do and might get you into trouble..

the law of averages.

Tax is the single most important area of law for any small business owner. E-commerce as well for internet users.

It depends what area you are in. Generally though, most people don't get in trouble because the paper work is out of line - usually they promise something they can't follow through on. So in general, follow the golden rule: Treat others as you'd want to be treated. Don't promise something you can't deliver on.

This thread reminds me of a song... "I fought the law and the law won"

Without giving us an area of expertise etc we can't help you!
