Well I generally do 1000 or less, also Huffington recommends the same. If it's longer there are less chances of it being promoted.. If you don't care whether it gets promoted and indexed, then I guess it's ok, we can do more than 1000 words... Or you can split it into 2 quality articles, up to you..
