Google says:

“Just create great content, and links will come naturally.”

Sounds nice… but here’s the reality

  • No one’s out there hunting for your article to link it.
  • Your “content marketing strategy” isn’t moving the needle without outreach.
  • Your competitors aren’t “earning” links - they’re building them.
  • If links were truly earned, link-building agencies wouldn’t even exist.
  • And people wouldn’t spend billions every year buying them.

SEO in 2025 isn’t about hoping.

It’s about strategy, leverage, and execution

Completely agree - I have seen that “great content” alone rarely earns links anymore. And say that link-building agencies exist because organic link earning alone isn’t enough. It’s all about smart strategy

Hey @gary2 ,

No one’s out there hunting for your article to link it - Hits Hard and Damn Truth .

However, even the content is good there is no legit natural way for grasping the external links . You should outreach it, the thing is if your content and legit the sites can be easily adopt and accept to provide the oppertunity to publish the links.

You can’t just wait for links to come, you need to plan smart and work hard to build them.

Well said totally agree. Great content is important, but without active outreach and relationship building, it rarely attracts links on its own. Consistent promotion + smart link strategy is what actually drives results.

“Just create great content, and links will come naturally.”
Damn true.

Both great content with on-page SEO and off-page SEO are needed. You have to build your own backlinks, or you have to research which backlink is good for you to rank even higher.

Both approaches can work. You should see your strength and proceed from there.

Great content alone rarely earns links now promotion and outreach make the difference. The smartest approach I’ve seen is combining quality content with targeted link building campaigns. Build something worth linking to, then actively pitch it to the right audiences. That’s how “natural” links actually happen in 2025.

Agreed, and that's logical. Just a few years back, bloggers typically generated a maximum of one piece of content per day, but the scenario is now opposite. As competition increases daily, no one can afford to risk their position in this market without building backlinks

Facts. You can’t just post and pray. You need a real plan to get eyes and links on your content.

Not true for all. There ara still some websites that gain lot kf organic links. Like if You mase some very helpful article in some niche , there would be many who will include it as reference on their websites.

To do SEO effectively, you always need a proactive plan for reasonable link building. Your website cannot reach the top with good content alone; link building is a prerequisite and essential.

True

Totally true.
If people can earn some money - they will.
So It’s not about “great content”.

Complete agree with OP point of view. if you have a website like other peoples and is not adding some ground breaking informations that the audience will not be able to get in other places then you need to search and get links not just to wait for other sites to link to your

We need good content and real outreach, not just hope. And good content is only the starting point now, so we need a strategy.

To both of you... “Just create great content, and links will come naturally.” - how can links come naturally if nobody can find your amazing content?

On the other hand, once it's possible to find your content, links will come naturally. I still get natural links now and then... OK, not as many as before.

You're right a passive strategy just doesn't cut it and almost everyone who's ranking has put in the work to build those links and not just waited for them to magically appear. BUT going too hard on the link building side can backfire. If you're just buying links or doing mass guest posting with spammy and unnatural links is a huge risk. Google is now really good at spotting that and a penalty can tank your site. I think the sweet spot is a mix, create genuinely useful content that's worth linking to and then actively build relationships and links to it. It's not one or the other.
