I am calling for the forum gurus!

After struggling learning HTMMO with email marketing I am finally banking some dollars from email.

But as everyone keep saying that @ is going to die, as everyone keep falling into msngrs...

Is it still worth investing time into learning email marketing?

Or is it better to invest time into learning some other methods that are predicted to be the future of IM?

Who says it's going to die? Email is so ubiquitous that's not going to die any time soon.

If you already started making money using your email list, you should invest more efforts to optimize and scale.

I also thought email marketing was dead, but it's not.
I've worked for a company that has a fairly known e-commerce (about $1 million per year revenue) and I was surprised learning that about 10-15% of that revenue came from newsletters.
However, I must say that they had an open rate almost double than normal (worldwide rate should be around 13%, they had 20-25%).
The secret to have a high open rate is use good titles and send emails at the right day of the week (tuesday or thursday) and at the right time of the day (morning, lunch time or after dinner).

When amazon has something to communicate do they do it via chat, or by email?
When google has something to communicate do they do it via chat, or by email?
When [insert whatever big company] has something to communicate do they do it via chat, or by email?

If these big companies use emails to communicate important info / promotions to their member base it means that email marketing works for them, otherwise they wouldn't do it. If email marketing is good for these companies it should be good for you.

Learn (and use!) email marketing and do not waste time with messengers.

You are right, but chats can be effective as well. The company where I used to work (see my reply above) also used WhatsApp to contact their customers and for marketing purposes. The open/response rate was close to 100% for all those who had WhatsApp.
That's because most email notifications get lost or ignored, especially for people who receive tons of newsletters, but everyone would immediately open a notifcation on their IM.
I personally wouldn't like to be contacted by companies on my IM, so I thought most people would complain, but very few did. Actually, some customers said it was nice to be contacted on WhatsApp because they felt more close to the company, who seemed more human.

so I'm wrong then, not right :)

Oh well, I've not delved too deep into using bots so I wouldn't know. But my point was that email marketing is still as effective as ever. And I'm not saying this to backup my point but I genuinely dislike chatting in general with everything that chatting entails (social media, bots, whatsapp, and all of that). I'm an old fashioned marketer and I prefer email marketing over new technologies, but if what you're saying is true.... crap! I need to adapt :p

big companies are also slowly starting to use msngrs. Previously people had to use email because there were no alternatives. Their boss was sending them instructions using @. But now work communications are more and more going into msngrs. 10 years ago I remember having email conversations with my relatives while being abroad, now that happens almost never.

As I heard, in China people almost dont use email. All work communications are done through msngrs, registrations on websites, apps's, everything.

Even though I think smtp is much more of an interesting technology rather than a msngr, it seems like it is not evolving anymore.

No, you were right (you said email marketing is effective and big companies use it - it's true), I simply said chat marketing can also be effective.
I'm also old fashioned and hate chats. If a company was to send me offers on WhatsApp I would immediately tell them to cancel my subscription, but some people like it, so each to their own, I guess.
And yes, what I said was true, I thought I would share my experience working for a proper e-commerce (a real company and not just some random dropshipping dude).

Yeah, in China they probably use WeChat for everyting.

email marketing is always a great go.

maybe its too old bt ppl usually gain sales from it.

Email marketing still works but not on it's own, it has to be wrapped around something else.

If you just cold email people, expect to fail.

You need to warm them up through other channels and then use email to convert them. Especially now when everyone is bombarded with emails.
