The EU is going after the tech giants

The European Union is considering requiring companies like Amazon, Google, and Apple to be transparent with their ranking algorithms. Something like this could be pretty devestating to these companies.

I'm curious to see if anything comes from this.

Interesting :D . So many consequences of GDPR (or may be this is something else?? )! I think companies will start giving F**k to the EU law pretty soon.

A LAW has been initiated , General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) , and it'll be active from 25th May,2018

It's cool competition now. It's a great initiative thought. Everything needs to approval by legal now. Good article.

This is nothing to do with GDPR. GDPR is about giving individuals greater rights to understand how their personal data is used, and to control that use.

This proposal is about making it clearer to everyone (businesses as well - if not predominantly) how ranking algorithms work.

But it is welcome.

i cant imagine they'd have to release information that we dont already know

That`s why every company renew their tos?
- basically those companies which are dealing with public data.
Whatever, if you are living outside of EUROPEAN UNION , then you are not under this law

It seems more of a law to get Google to give up trade secrets rather than be transparent about how they rank websites. Its already pretty open on the factors and you can go back years to see all the changes. It is not Google's fault if a business fails to do the research on not only what SEO is required to rank in google but the mordus operandi of the changes they make. It is not a far leap to consider that site speed for mobile is either already a factor in the mobile ranking or will become a factor in the mobile rankings, by looking at the April 2015 updates.
