That's why I highly recommend a paid hosting, you can find really cheap, like $2 or more....

I have a question;

I want to rank and dominate for a niche here in my country. It is a small place and very competitive. I am deciding whether to purchase the local country TLD and the main TLD or purchase the main TLD on it own?

Like to hear from anyone with good solid experience on this one?

Well if you want to rank for your country's Google (ie Google UK) , then you need to buy the countries TLD, like if you are trying to rank for Google UK, then you will have to buy co.uk, and if you are trying to rank for Google India, then .in.
 
Ok, that's true if the competition is very high, but when it's not, then you can go with the .com domain to. For an example, I currently hold two #1 positions in my country with the .com domain, because the country domain was not available.
