Hey everybody, I'm feeling a bit curious today.

I want to go somewhere over the summer, but I don't want it to break the bank. I come from a poorish family, so I have duties and obligations within my household financially, but my success with IM has been on an uprise as of recent; as a result I feel like treating myself to a trip!

I just want to go somewhere new, I've been in Canada my whole life and I have only ventured outside of it once (and that was to Florida, not even that far of a stretch). There's only one thing, I don't want to spend more than $1,000 CDN total.

It's probably impossible, but I'm sure there's something I can manage that wouldn't be so bad for $1,000. I can afford to pay for a trip that costs more than that, I'm just an incredibly cheap person and am rather "neccesity based" (not gonna lie!). A week is what people usually go out for, but I'd even be willing to go somewhere for 3-4 nights.

Lay some locations on me guys, I'M READY TO SEE SOMETHING NEW.

Inb4 Thailand, although it does sound pretty fun I'm sure I couldn't manage with $1,000.

I have an idea for you mate that might work well for your budget depending on how
you want to live while you are away.

Mexico

1. Go to hostelworld.com and find a hostel to stay in cheap. Usually I prefer finding one
that has an en-suite meaning there is a bathroom in the room I rent privately for me.

2. Try to price out either skipping down to the USA and taking the Amtrak to Houston and
from there Mexico or optionally price out plane flights or bus tickets. (Bus would be miserable)

Mexico is full of cheap food and a nice atmosphere thats totally different from the USA or Canada.

Hope you can find something you can have fun with! Nothing like a trip to break up the mundane.
Remember on your budget do not expect a lot with the hostel and your not going to the touristy areas.

I cant say staying in a hostel is best way to relax and treat yourself...

You should go to Las Vegas - there are cheap flights from Canada there and hotels are dead cheap as well.
As long as you not going to spend much in casinos you will have 7 days premium holidays within your budget while enjoying all the flavour of the city (prices in Vegas are extremely low as they assume, they will get you back in casino). Spend $200 more and go to grand canyon and you will have a holidays of lifetime :)

Sunny Beach, Burgas, Bulgaria is my recommendation for you. Why? Nice people, cheap prices & accomodation, girls, great place, etc. See ya there! Keep your money & documents safe! :D

Each to their own buddy, but I have traveled around staying in plenty of hostels and found
a lot of them to be clean and safe. Only issue is they are small but plenty large enough to squeeze in the
occasional girl. :p

I can't say a hostel was what I had in mind, but then again you get what you pay for. I don't really want to go to Mexico, but I like the thought of Grenada (that link that Sunday Lunch posted is actually pretty tempting, ~$700 for an all inclusive trip to Grenada? Sounds like fun!).

Bulgaria doesn't sounds too appealing either, but obviously I appreciate the input you guys!

Maybe a hostel in Tokyo? Then again the flight itself to Tokyo would be a lot of money on its own.

I would definitely not take a trip to mexico atm.. unless your looking to die.

As soon as he mentioned Mexico I automatically thought of myself getting kidnapped and ransomed off to the Canadian government.

Or maybe I'll become a Mexican drug cartel's hitman? You never know with these things..

Hah, the one issue I have with hostels are the bed bugs and other things crawling there.
My friend was also happy to travel the world in hostels etc. until he got Scabies - nasty things they are and they love places like hostels...

How would you get from Canada to Thailand for $1 000. I live in Australia and the cheapest I've ever seen it is about $660.

I said that I probably COULDN'T get to Thailand with $1,000.

How far into Canada from the US are you? If you're somewhere close like Montreal, then you'll save on plane fare if you drive. There are many beautiful beaches in the Northeast that you can stay at for a week. If you stay across the street from the beach in a motel, it will be much cheaper than staying right on the beach. Saving on vacations gives me a high. There are many things you can do to save money. Cruises are nice and are cheap if you book at the last minute, and everything is included in the price.

yeah either or, it goes both ways. But neither of the two are positive. Just make sure to be ready to die if anything goes wrong.

I'm in Ontario, so I'm relatively close to the border. I remember that we drove to Buffalo when we went to Florida because we saved a bunch of money, that could be something for me to look into as well. I don't really want to go to the states, I was thinking of somewhere a bit more "exotic", but I'm not much of a drinker. I figured the more exotic locations were for the drinking type.

If I can't get marijuana easily where I'm going it isn't going to be as enjoyable (and I'm really not trying to come off as a stoner, I don't even smoke that much, I just think it'd be cool to have).

You should drive into the States, then take JetBlue somewhere. Sign up for their mailing list. They have incredible deals. JetBlue flies out of Buffalo. I can't help you with the pot. Jamaica maybe?

I'll look into it, thanks! Maybe I'll just go to Myrtle Beach or something..
