I'm truly curious about them.

Personally, I would never purchase a service with the word ninja or cow in them.

I realize though that not everyone thinks like me.

What's your thoughts on these ads?
Do you guys prefer something that gets to the point or do you prefer the little cartoons and random shiz that has nothing to do with the service offered? Do ninjas and muskrats actually help sell anything?

I'm not trying to knock anyone, this is a serious question.

what ads are you referring to? People making videos with cartoon animations and such?

Yes. Part of the reason I'm wondering is for my own ad creation, the other part is simply just out of pure curiosity.

Eh I have Adblock on so I never see any of the ads.

Ninjas or Muskrats in and of themselves will add nothing to an ad.
It depends on what context they are used in the ad. The Gecko
character in the Geico ad is an obvious choice. Anyway, using
characters can be a great idea or it can fall flat on its face. You
need to test, test, test.

In regards to the ads on BHW, as long as the advertiser is in compliance
with our rules and restrictions, the content and design is his/her choice.

I do think the same at times but just because an ad is working, doesn't mean it couldn't be better.
Honestly, I'm completely against creating ads that are not 100% honest and to the point.
Like in my original post though, I know not everyone thinks like me.

I'm just starting to dump money into advertising and I want to be sure I'm going about things the most profitable way.
Looking at someone's success doesn't help at all because you can't see the failure. In other words, just because someone is having positive results doesn't mean that it's next to nothing percentage wise.

That's why I'm trying to get people's input.

Let's put it this way... You have two ads advertising the same EXACT service for the same price.
One ad is made as professional as possible. The other is made to appeal to the WTF or nostalgia factor (old cartoons, ninjas, etc)...
What would you black-hatters mostly prefer? Who would you choose?

I'm mostly trying to gauge how well these 'entertainment' (as I call them) ads work vs to-the-point ads.

Maybe someone who's tried both methods can chime in ... ?

I used to think the same way.. but think of it like this... If their ads are still up, that obviously means their banking hard.

Well first, I completely agree with you. It's not just the ads that are bad but many sales pages as well. Because I look at a lot of the salespages on here and most of the time I think "a real copywriter would NEVER design a page like THIS.".

I may get flamed for this, but it's part of the reason I spend most my money on WF. I use BHW for the forums and great advice. But I don't spend much money here. On WF, I ignore the forums, but I buy most my services there.

Why?

Well, it's all about demographics. And although I haven't seen BHW's demographics I'm pretty confident that 60-70% of the members on here are younger than 25. Lots of gamers. Lots of younger guys = lots of people who like cartoons and flashing animations = lots of people who don't really GAF what they're buying. When I go on WF it's much easier to find those pure white sales pages that get directly to the point. Like the sales pages where it's all simple text, headlines, and 0 photos. Those are the ones I look for. Those are the ones I trust. And those are the ones that I normally don't see on here.

In my own business, my target demo is adults. So I'm use to marketing to adults... not kids. Most my websites are clean, simple and white.

I use to try crazy branding gimmicks, mascots, cartoons, animations.... and it destroyed my conversions.

Adults don't like that shit.

Kids do.

That's just my opinion.

Here's the deal . . . If you can get better ads done,
by all means, DO IT!, but why diss other people's ads?
If their ads suck, that is their fault and they will pay
the price by means of making less sales.

You have to understand that those "characters" defines them, it's their brand. In the future, if you see it, you'll recognize it right away as "fatcow" for example...

It defines them.... and it depends on your target audience. For example with BHW, I don't mind using a small amount of cartoons/characters in my BST, but for example, with a client paying $5k/mo (offline-type of clients), I prefer to do it without cartoons or such.

Really depends who your target audience is....

It's funny you're a mod but you still don't bother to read the thread properly before replying.
At the very least, you definitely didn't grasp the point before jumping to accusations.

This wasn't about dissing anyone.

I said essentially that I don't like them but if there's information showing they're more effective, I will make mine like that.
Therefore admitting that my point of view is not always the correct one, which I clearly stated.

I am looking to see if these toons are actually effective.

What's up OP? You don't like my hot ladies in bakinis!!? GTFO of here -__-

Maybe if they lost the bikini ... :D

Seriously though, we all know sex sells. I'm not going to argue with that one.

Haha right? Actually I've been denied a few by the Ad rep here for displaying too much flesh, had to have them edited then lol :(

Hey OP I believe this is a really great question... So I made a video about it! Hope it's helpful. IF I get enough requests, I'll do a video that get's into the nitty gritty of ho wI come up with the perfect infotainment balance.
