3D printers aren't that new since they have been here since the 1980s, I think. But yeah, its making people rethink the way things are manufactured especially for third world countries where things can now be manufactured much cheaper. There is still a lot of work though as the materials that can be used is limited.

Stratysis Objet 1000 is all you need for quality production of things about as large as a car rim. Th quality is about as high as it will go now, so reselling a 3d printed toy won't cause any complaints.

I think they are awesome, but at the same time it seems more like a fad in terms of its popularity. I think that within 5 years or so the popularity will die down, and it will mostly be used for companies with large productions with hundreds to a few thousands of the machines.

But yea, I like 3D Printers. They seem cool.
Which one exacly? Have been around and pretty mainstream for some time already. From marketplaces to your own printer it is all possible already. Great application for prosthesis, even an artificial heart so yes they are real and great. The plastic is still too expensive, but multiple projects to get that down already as well.
