like everyone i have witnessed the Google pagerank update from the 6th of December. However, since i use SEO tools and that i exactly know my number of backlinks, i quickly saw that the pageranks of my websites did not match the state of actual backlinks indexed by Google.
The hints:
1/ Some of my websites have still a PR N/A. However they had lots of backlinks against it on the 6th of december. It means the update is a snapshot of internet and it happened because i built backlinks to my websites.
2/ I have created a page on the 15th of october on one website. After the PR update it is a PR zero. i know it does not get backlinks except from other inner webpages. This particular page is at the level 1. Other older pages have a PR 2. Only the homepage gets backlinks. All the pages should have a PR 2. And i am sure it will happen like that.
My theory is the following: This update comes from a previous state of the internet. They did an update on the 6th of december but i don't think they took data from the 6th of december in terms of backlinks. I think they did a backlink snapshot from a date in september or october.
My advices:
In other words, the PR does not reflect the reality of your backlinks. If you lost pagerank and if you have still traffic, i would suggest to build links again because you are going to be hit.
If you have a increase of PR and if you didn't see an increase in traffic it is normal, it will come later. Normally it should come at the end of this month or beginning of January 2014.
