I wonder if there is a relation to the people asking for rep and thanks compared to the people ending up on the shit list, or looking to offer a service. In both cases I can see these people having low post counts and newer accounts who are looking to build quick "trust" on BHW so they can either scam somebody, or offer a service that appears to be coming from somebody with high rep.

Yeah, that is my worry too. So much scamming going on lately and peeps clamouring to increase their standing in the community.
I bow to Wiz's (dignified) reply, maybe I should be a little more patient but devalueing the system really ticks me off.

Ultimately, I am not concerned about thanks and reps. However, if
a member wishes to show his/her appreciation for something I
have done to help him/her or the forum in-general, I see no
problem with that.
(BTW, if a meetup with the members ever does materialize,
I wouldn't be opposed to accepting a nice blue Lamborghini
Gallardo!)

Good point. We used to get a similar thing on our forums when rep came into play and we ended up getting rid of it.
If your interesting and have anything to offer at all, the thanks will come. If you have to beg for rep or just to be liked, then thats a pretty sad little internet life your leading.

I guess the main thing for me is hopefully the majority of users who have +rep worth recieving can see past rep whoring and won't give it making some rep whoring harder. Thanks whoring on the other hand is much easier which is why if I do "judge" someone based on either rep or thanks, I judge on rep. But this is obviously superficial in some cases which I guess is the point of the thread (which is why I try more than ever to judge based on users quality posts I've personally seen).

Quality never goes in vain. It's my personal experience that whenever I have posted something valuable, then I've been + Repped and thanked. Begging for Rep and thanks makes you no less than beggars. We need to post things which forces people to thank and Rep us but begging for the same seams irritating.
