Testing the new Algorithm

This isnt another google slapped me im going to give up and drink away all my profits i made in the bank thread but rather what i am doing to test the new algo as i cant see many people doing the same and sharing their results so i thought i better do it!!



im sure working together we can find out what still works in no time at all!!!



Over past couple of days i have been doing a lot of testing on different methods of ranking websites.

I have tried AMR blasts directly to site which doesnt seem to have much effect(altho this would take a week in the past to see results)
Social Bookmarks direct to sites(pliggs, scuttles etc) no effect direct or at buffer sites.
currently building a pyramid of my own blogs at the bottom, which i then blast with amr and the blast the amr with social bookmarks(not finished yet but no results so far)
Private blog posts(too early to tell i think but hopeful on this)

i have also gone about varying my anchor text massively more than ever before(i used to use about 20% raw urls, 20% exact match, 20% broad and long tail match, and 40% random and long tail anchor texts) now its massively more diverse than this.

i have also built new a web-store on 1 domain so far intend to do it on 2 more on domains i have that are a few months old, to see how easy they might be to rank too.(plus having age and already being indexed gives me a small advantage over buying a brand new domain.

I am assuming all the drops i saw are due to a penalty rather than link devaluation.

i am also testing on one site that has seen huge drops in number of KWs that were ranked top 2 to now having just 1 KW int he top 10, by doing big amr blast of random anchor texts and social bookmarks to see if it is diversity issue of anchor text and see if i can water the percentages down and hopefully see returning result.

oh and 1 site i have brought a load of private blog network posts(8 networks) blasted with about 10% exact match anchor texts to see if that creates any movement too.

and finally on another site i have 301ed a couple of domains that have dropped hugley to a domain that has not seen a big drop but this domain i dint work on much at all, to see if this 301 method works too(again too early to tell yet)

while it is still early days i have yet to see any improvement yet for any of the above methods, i will report back if i see any movements.

What have you been trying to rank sites? Have you seen any movement with any methods? what has yielded results for you?

well i think it is useless to try black hat things now. what i mean first you have to have complete and awesome site. after that black hat will come. so starting black hat at the beginning or not before finishing the whole site is pretty useless. for example there are still many improvements that i have to do but i am wasting my time here

You do know this is pretty much a case study.

I'm testing as well to try and figure out what is causing movement up and down.

You posed my primary question. Are these penalties or cases of devalued links.
I'm also trying to figure if penalties are being pushed for 301s. I have a lot of mixed results so far. I have a hard time believing 301s can be blanketed with an algo. It seems to me this is a tough spot for G and would need to be done manually. That said, my biggest drops have 301s to them.

I admire your dedication, but it was way TOO early to try new strategies.

Google is still tweaking the update. They made another big tweak in the last few hours. You are going to have to wait til the dust settles and Google is done fixing their screw, before testing.

You're obviously not cut out for SEO or something
The thinnest and least complete sites of mine are the ones that are increasing rankings... and the most black hat as far as backlinks...

I'm going to whoop out my old buddies SB and XR and see if they work.

Yes that is what I'm seeing also. My practically incomplete sites (thin, aged and nothing but old blog comment backlinks) are moving up and my authority sites are just rocking a bit back and forth through the storm. I only have one site dropping fast but it got a WMT notice back in March so it's in the 4-6 week window currently. I can't blame that on the latest nonsense.

i have the same problem. my good sites where i did a lot of white hat seo and good backlinks where desasterous deranked. my crappy sites like adsense microsites kept the position.
i am a litttle clueless because the mayority of my backlinks ar from my privat network. but only some pages which this network supports are effected ...others are not so i dont think it is a devaluation of my inbound links.
i got mostly hit on high quality affiliate pages ... which dont have much content. just up to 10 pages. all my sites with much more pages seem to be not effected.

my way out of this desaster ..... no clue yet. i make like 1 or 2 web2.0 a day and diverse the anchor ...which i did a long time anyway.

Somr of my pages have lost rank. But I am still getting a few visitors and makinf more money than I did before. I can't for the life of me figure where the money is coming from. It doesn't show up in any of my channels. Might be fake and I will be disappointed at the end of the month. I just don't know. I am getting tired of Google changing shit.

used to try some of those strategies, but now, just blasting backlinks with no strategies, I don't care whether g change or what the hell...snake, penguin, panda, pig, else other algo...it fell, 301...this is my way.

i dont have xrummer, im not going to touch SB. i do have a older version of senuke and AMR and have a medium budget to hit the new store with....

isaw you saying somewhere that a massive web 2.0 blast made some differnce can you help out afellow blackhatter and recommend a bit of a strategy to get this new store running.

i still think contexual links are the way to go as Google didnt devalue the links they hit the networks same as with article directories so im looking to options in this sort of way right now. I have also completely deoptimised the new webstore to be very underoptomised compared with past times.

i will get my income abck no questions about it.

as for the people waying its too early Good for you but im not sitting around waiting for permission!!!

The fact that thin, low page count sites haven't been hit must be a clue. Low page count means less pages for you to have repeated your keywords on.

Guys, don't give up! Remember when you started SEO... Figure out what works and scale! It's the same thing again, they changed the game, let's adapt.

I added one of my domains to webmaster tools and ordered a nice 100+ high pr blog posts to 5 domains without keywords in anchor. Let's see what happens...

I'm sure google owns some bookmarking and article sites itself, i'll try to filter them out...

Hi nakmuay7 - be interested to see your results so kudos for trying out these approaches.

I've seen a big hit across 2 sites which were already in a tailspin for being too BMR dependent when that got network got deindexed, so was taking the approach of building up 'quality web 2.0s' with diversified anchor text when this happened.

Its hard to make much sense of the anything at the moment as some of my smaller sites all had a similar approach - some have been hit dramatically :-( while others have surged in the rankings.

What it is hard to know is how much effect what you are doing is the result of 'proactive work' and how much is the result of others being penalised. I suspect the big rankings gains I have seen are due other sites being pulled down for whatever reason, rather than anything I have done to get them up the rankings. And of course vice versa where my sites have gone down.

My approach now for what it is worth, is to focus on the sites themselves. I am still building links, albeit at a slower rate which I have been for some time, and still concentrating on a mix (private blog posts, article marketing, blog comments, directory submissions, social bookmarks etc). I read somewhere once that the biggest mistake is to stop doing anything - could be seen as a big signal that you are gaming the system by the big G and trigger further penalties.

I take the view that if I spend more time focusing on the sites themselves, then whatever shakes out from this, I will at least have better sites (validated, more natural keyword balance, better quality content, more focused on conversions etc).
