I've never had a problem with the IRS asking me where my online revenue comes from. I do have my own business and use an accountant every year to help me avoid trouble. Seriously, as long as you give the government its pound of flesh and they see you aren't trying to hold out you shouldn't have a problem.
The only time I've personally known someone to have a problem is when they only paid taxes on a small portion of what they received. The IRS saw how much they had accumulated in the bank and THEN started asking where the money was coming from and why they didn't include all of the money they earned on their taxes.
